I scheduled with a guide to take me alligator gar fishing. I hooked into one that was 55lbs. It was just a baby compared to some of the fish I saw breaking the surface. We saw several over a hundred pounds and bigger. I already have a trip booked for next year. I want a 150lber. I didn't realize these fish had so much trophy potential. His trips are strickly catch and release though. The guide I used was Kirk Kirkland. He's been on a lot of TV shows. I saw him a show called monster quest most recently. He's a great guide. He has caught gar over 300lbs. What a monster.

That is awesome, nice catch!! Yes those things get huge, there have been some monsters caught out of the Trinity River which is near me. Many people like to bow fish for them, have heard it is a lot of fun.

In June 1986 while fishing in Bayou D'sierd in Monroe, LA I was there when two 14, 16yo boys were fishing in a 10ft Aluminum Boat with both using Zebco 202 Reel Combos with 10lb test line. I saw one boy rod bent almost double with the boat being pulled over a half mile down the bayou. After about 20 mins both boys finally got the boat to shore where their father came and helped them land it. After calling news and Wildlife fisheries the Gar weighed in at 101lbs.

In 1997 while fishing in the Red River near Alexandria,LA my cousin Jimmy Thompson caught a Alligator GAr weighing 179lbs. We thought he was hung up at first then line started to swing boat around. We were in a 19ft Javelin 150 Johnson, using All Star rods with Quantum offshore Reel. We were fishing for Chanel Cats using goldfish. I will try to see if Mom still has scrapbook, but her house had over a foot of water in it yesterday. LAter,Gary

Toney, that is where I put my boat in at Boyce or you can put in at the ramp by Buhlow lake which is where BAyou Rigollette (pronounced Rowgully) is. Lots of White perch, alligator gar, cats and bass are in there. Cajun like to skin them whole then pull the white meat from the bones and grind it up with corn meal, green and yellow onions, celrey, bellpeppers and seasonings, roll them into blls and fry them. Also you can skin thm on the bottom and remove the entire shell covering. Puts some Tony Chacheris on it with a lemon and peppe, squeezed lemon juice and put them on the grill. C'est Bon. Do you miss that awesome V8 Quest that you let go? Later,Gary Edited by sfc711

Got one bowfishing in a creek near my parents house when I was 16 or so. My friend taxed it and mounted it on his wall. It wasnt anything nearly that huge though, but yeah, it was alot of fun hunting em with the bow!

Gary,

At times I do miss that car a lot but I don't think I had enough passion to keep it. I'm sure it's in the hands of someone that can appreciate it for what it is.

I think I'm going to go another route with a car. It will be awhile before I purchase another one. I'll be looking at Vettes or a NSX when I do.

i believe this is a salt water gar.

The gar was actually caught by Keith Riehn and Robin Parks at the Sam Rayburn Reservoir, Texas in 2005. It's a fresh water gar. I believed it weighed in at 244lbs.

Braden, I have paased through Anahuac countless number of times when I was stationed at Ft Sam on my way to and from home in Alex. They have the annual Alligator Festival there if I remember correctly.

I have caught Blue channel catfish up to 20lb and yellow/mud cats over 100lb.

Toney did you see my new ride that I bought from Texas in Feb? Here are some pics:

Branden,

I pass through Anahuac quite often also, on my way to Louisiana. It's either I-10 or 59 North. I usually go 59 North but I'll take I-10 to change things up. The yellow cats are the best IMO. We call them flat heads or Opelousas cat.

Gary,

That Vette is super sweet man. You got any plans to hop it up?

Yes, I already have the Borla Exhaust, have the Diablosport Predator tuner in it now but I was getting ready to put a larger cam, along with new heads, pistons, and a maggie but Gustav put a hold on that. I llost all my furniture, clothes. Apt Mgr just had all new carpet put in. My mother and I both had State Farm renters insurance but can you believe they said it does not cover flood. My Mom had a 15" of water in her house which was 4 blocks from the hospital. My stepdad is semi invalid, has a respirator, oxygen. Just spent $4k on a bed thatt keeps him moving so the fluid does not build around his heart(Congestive Heart Failure). 3 Weeks ago diagnosed with a tumor on left brain lobe. He was suppose to go to Dallas last Wed for a neurosurgeon consultation but thats when the flooding happen. my Mom called 911 at 7Am on Wed for help in getting him out. At 7:45 she called me freaking out that no had shown. I called them and they said they were all tied up. SoI called the JOC at the National Guard and in 30minutes they had a 2 1/2 ton truck picking him up. Now my Mom is at a hotel until OCt. She has to pay but Fema said they will reimburse her(Will see). I have spent all my savings helping her since 03 when My stepdad coded from a septic gallstone thet ruptured and was gangrenous. Dr was suppose to order a hydroscan after Radiologist suggested it after ultasound. Well he never did and I had told Mom to take him to ER because of the yellow in his eyes. Well he coded whil being admitted to ER. Dr.s came and told m Mom to make funeral arrangements because of the poison had caued renal failure. Well we filed a malpractice suit and had to go out of state to find an attorney to handle case because nonw around here would take case because this Dr contributes to their political committes.

BoHO, Toney give me a ring if you come this way and I will give you a yell if I am coming to Houston or Atlanta. Well gotta goand put my stuff back where it goes. Later,GAry
