Group buy for a low cost DIY wideband controller.

Link to the creators site, details, specs, videos, faq, manual all here at:

http://www.14point7.com/JAW/JAW.htm

Cost:

Need 10 orders to get a discount of $7.50 off the cost w/ display, or $5.00 w/o display. This discount is minimal, however the advantages are:

1. Cheaper shipping because supplier/creator is in Toronto Canada, he charges $10 when ordered singally, (with a group buy, he sends ALL to ONE person for $30 shipping) I'll ship for priority mail for $5... so you save $2!!($2 savings not much, but there will be tracking/delivery confirmation as opposed to none if ordered without group buy)

2. I will assemble and test for half of what he charges, he charges $20, I'll assemble for $10.

$70.00 DIY Kit: With Display

- 7.50 discount for 10+ orders w/ display

+ 3.00 for shipping from Canada

= 65.50

+ 5.00 for shipping

= 70.50 shipped unassembled to you WITH DISPLAY

+ 10.00 assembly

= 80.50 shipped assembled/tested to you WITH DISPLAY

-------------------------------------------

$45.00 DIY Kit: Without Display

- 5.00 discount for 10+ orders

+ 3.00 for shipping from Canada

= 43.00

+ 5.00 for shipping

= 48.00 shipped unassembled to you NO display

+ 10.00 assembly

= 58.00 shipped assembled/tested to you NO display

-------------------------------------------

Harness:

The kit only includes spade connectors with no wiring for the sensor to controller. You can add the following parts to your order(If you want to save on shipping, These will be ordered all at once and the shipping costs will be divided):

Housing VW Part# 1J0-973-733

1 x 5.75 = 5.75

Terminals VW Part# 000-979-133-A

3 x 3.59 = 10.77

Grommet VW Part# 357-972-741-A

6 x 0.29 = 1.74

subtotal = 18.26

+ shipping= 2.00??

est. total = 20.26??

-------------------------------------------

Cases:

These do NOT include cases

These cases will fit:

Board Casing # 270-1805

Display Casing # 270-1802

A fan is required if you plan on mounting the unit in a case, otherwise if you leave JAW somewhere that has decent airflow it should not be a problem.

-------------------------------------------

These do NOT include Bosch WBo2 Sensors

About $50 from Autozone.

As of 9/27 Amazon.com has them for 44.39 SHIPPED, LINK

-------------------------------------------

These do NOT include sensor bungs/plugs

You can get these from Summitracing.com

BUNG $3.39 LINK

PLUG $3.95 LINK or locally.

Update #1(9/27): Emailed the seller, replied in 20 minutes. Says 10 orders will be ready to ship out by 10/05/2007, so I would need payment by 10/04/2007... unless you guys want to add another week.

Update #2(9/28): It seems that the wiring used is nothing fancy and could be bought locally by you as we probably won't save enough money to buy in bulk. Also, it'll let you make your own custom length harness. Still pending on the wire, but the connector housing and parts will be ordered for sure. Also, a fan will be required if you do mount in a case.

Update #3(10/03): Emailed the seller again, said that under 10 units is ok for discount and that he can ship them out to me by mid next week, so it would be 7-14 days after that before I would recieve them. I am sending out totals to you guys. I am not going to do the wiring part of the connector harness as the wiring is nothing special.

Update #4(10/07): The units are on thier way to me from Canada.

Update #5(10/18): I have recieved the units, and will begin assembly/testing. I also have recieved my wideband sensor, and hope to have it installed this weekend, so I can do complete testing.

The connectors have been ordered as well, it seems the rubber grommets are holding the order up as they didn't have enough stock.

I will ship out Monday to craig87, as he did not request assembly or a connector, and by mid next week, I should have everything tested, shipping out just depends on the connectors.

BTW, I'll be doing mounting the display connector on the reverse side of the PCB. It looks better this way, and will fit cleaner in a case.

If you don't have your sensor or bung, ORDER THEM NOW... so you'll be ready to go. I ordered from Amazon.com for $44, they delievered in two days.

Update #6(10/25): Got all the connectors in.

Got two wideband controllers tested... just need to build the rest and test them... and ship em all out!!

In testing they work great with datalog.

Update #7(11/01): Everything has been shipped!!

I sprung for the 8.95 shipping for a box, as opposed to my original plan of using the flat rate envelope. After seeing the tiny bag of which all the parts were in, I don't think they'd survive... especially assembled!!

Check your emails for the tracking numbers, and your mailboxes for the units.

Please leave feedback for me in the feedback forum, here's a link:

I wanted to let you guys know, you can find the 02 cheaper from other places. I was looking for a link, but didn't find it during a quick search. But you can find it from an online Vw parts store for around $30. It's a common wbo2 sensor that Vw's, Porsche and Audi all use.

I'm trying to remember where I saw it. It might have been a message board or on Megasquirt's site. There was a link I had for this place. I'll look some more for it.
