DSM RSM 89conquest
So I recieved my kit from TEP monday(a week late) and finally got everything bolted up properly. One broken exhaust manifold stud and a heli-coil kit later I am ready for the next upgrade: MPI. The Turbonetics unit looks great, but I had to disassemble the thing in order to bolt it to the manifold. Whoever designed this kit obviously did not think out the installation process very thoroughly: bolting the turbo to the manifold is a major hassle. I thought the manifold might be something interesting but it is just a stock cast manifold with a t3 flange welded to it. One more thing: the downpipe included with the kit is 6 inches too short and does not have a flange on the exhaust/midpipe side. I guess Ill be using some flex tubing and clamps till I get a proper exhaust. I will post some pics of the thing tomarrow, it looks nice! MPI next month!!! fixture
I bought that kit before as well with the BB option. The downpipe is left like that so you can attached it to any exhuast you might have, 2.5 or 3". I just took my down pipe that I had on the car and cut it where the TEP meets it and had it welded. Or you could use a exhaust clamp. Fixture
DSM RSM 89conquest
Well I am trying to figure out how to post these two pics, I got em on photoshop but I cant seem to get em tranfered onto this site. Ill figure it out.I was thinking of cutting my stock downpipe and welding it on as well, that would at least give me a model to create a nice one. I think I am going with a 2.5 inch exhaust and high flow cat.

michaelm07
nice setup, how much did that kit cost you? did you do the install? what did you do to the engine to support that power?
DSM RSM 89conquest
Thanks alot man. The kit cost me 2300.00, and I did all the prep work and installation. It came with a turbo, exhaust manifold, intake pipe, stainless steel oil feed line, and a downpipe. The only major complaints I have are that the downpipe is not long enough and has no lower flange, and you have to take the turbo apart to bolt it to the manifold. I ordered an MPI setup with stand alone engine management about a week ago as well as an intercooler and pipes to match, so this car should be up and running by christmas. The engine is original, compression is 112 in every hole. I dont plan to run the thing full blast until I get a rebuild. As far as my engine, I am going to need it all: forged internals, ARP studs and bolts, new MLS head gasket, new NJV head with port and polish, balance shaft elimination, new stock cam, big radiator, crankvent. This is my first project car. I plan to spend around 15K from start to finish. It may not be done for quite a while as there are so many aspects to consider. Wow....I'm not raggin on you or anything...but I hope you didn't buy your mpi setup from TEP....also...your internals. You could have gotten the same exact setup you just got....for less that 1200 bux....I have alot of TEP stuff that came with my car....nothing speacial bro. If you've got money great...but there are much better routes.

DSM RSM 89conquest
I am getting a hurricaine 4 from FIP. the 4 injector conversion from Tep is definitely way too expensive (3600.00!) and I dont like the design anyhow. Of course I could save by shopping around for parts but I am making great money right now and my time is valuable. I barely have time to work on the car at the moment! I love it that you guys care about my pocket so much. Kick back, relax, and watch as I post pics of the build. Think one-off, purpose built, lightweight, streetable racecar. If 101 purpose comes through with a set of coilovers and polyurethane bushings, the suspension will be on its way. Thanks for the comments, this site has been a huge source of inspiration. So its sunday, and I just got done pulling off my tb injection. Tomarrow I leave for northern cal, when I get back I will be prepping the car for MPI as well as routing the i/c pipes. I marked everything that I unhooked, but it really doesnt seem too complicated, except the vac lines which I left assembled as a reference. I am going to be spraying a ton of engine degreaser and brake cleaner but I have at least a week before my parts are delivered.
acidbath
What exactly would I need to make a T3/T4 work? Turb manifold? External Waste gate, and a down pipe? I already have a 3" Downpipe. So I guess I'll just need the bigger turbo+manifold+waste gate. Correct?
DSM RSM 89conquest
You can also get an internally wastegated turbo like mine. There are a couple of people running t3/t4 turbos on tbi but mpi is the way to go. Post a question in the Advanced Virtual Mechanic forum.
DSM RSM 89conquest
New photos of i/c, pipes, new steering gear and coupler. Hurricaine4 should come anyday now. As you can see my front end has some damage. The shadows make it look worse than it is. How ya like those one-off upper i/c brackets? Formula one quality I tell you! . I need to make some lower brackets as well. My lower radiator support is straight unlike my framerails, so everything should level out. While I wait for FIP I am going to relocate my battery, get a BOV, install 3-wire 02 sensor. This car should be up and running by christmas. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee202/RSM80/005.jpghttp://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee202/RSM80/004.jpghttp://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee202/RSM80/003.jpghttp://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee202/RSM80/002-1.jpg
UNDRPRSR
The I/C pipes and intercooler look great. We're glad you like it. Do you mind if we use your pictures on our website?
DSM RSM 89conquest
The CIN MOTORSPORTS I/C KIT is awesome. I really love the nice sweeping bends in the pipes. I took a hammer and enlarged the openings where the pipes exit the engine bay by bending the sharp edges inward, this helped not to scratch the pipes durring mock up. With the couplers all attached there is enough room for some flex and adjustability, which is nice if your car has minor front end damage, like mine. Feel free to use the pics. I will post some better ones when I get my Hurricaine all bolted up, and polish up my pipes. Thanks for the great product.
shift1313
looks like youve got big plans for the car. dont forget about all your suspension bushings, tranny and rear end. often over looked components. also you said you plan on getting a new stock cam???? why. There is nothing special about the starion cam. i believe its the same cam that the NA motors used. Talk to Tim C about a cam, he has a few different options. DSM RSM 89conquest
Thanks Shift,I need to do that. Where do you suggest I buy bushings and mounts? 101 purpose has got me down for a set of coilovers. I am going with a stock cam to get pass emissions(in CA) and get plates on the car. I have also pulled some weight out of the car by deleting the A/C, cruise, ps cooler, and secondary air box. I am going to strip the interior so that should be an easy couple hundred lbs. With a fixed headlight setup, I can also remove the pop up headlight motors. When I am done, this car will be a different animal. Ill keep you posted! angryhero46
Pretty crazy deleting the ps cooler. It weighs what a whole 2 pounds? How much was it for that Ic piping and what size is it?I couldnt find it on the CIN site.It looks like a nice way to go though.
DSM RSM 89conquest
My front end is a little mashed so the ps cooler was in the way of my ic, I didnt delete it so much for weight reasons. I want to install a remote mounted ps cooler and relocate the res. away from the turbo anyway. That dinky little thing couldnt do that much cooling anyhow. There are a couple members who drive around with no cooler at all. I/C pipes are 2.5 from turbo to IC and 3 from IC to intake. Call em up, or pm UNDRPRSR(earlier in the thread) they are professional and helpful. I hear they are making a big brake upgrade. Brembo!
