  1. haha no cop no. Just someone coming to work late on the weekend.....Good news, i moved some stuff around in my new garage and i think i can fit 4 more motorcycles and still have plenty of room to walk! Its just a tough thing cause i hate to see the car sit. Ill probably revive this thread every year but for now its safe under covers in the corner....My main problem is that I am a designer by trade. I love to design parts. I just dont want to hack this car up. i still think there is a lot i can do to it though. Ill make it stop and turn well before worrying about the rest of it. it will still be probably 5 years until i can get any time to work on it but thats just how it will have to be. Ill drain the tank one of these weekends. Even though the motor has a knock ill keep it so it can start and move around for now. it does make a sweet sound on the road! who needs a stereo! http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/th_secondaccel.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/th_harding.jpg
  2. yeah i did that the last time.... New crank, flushed everything, oil cooler and lines flushed with air, oil, air again. new oil pump, new crank etc. the next one will be all new parts. The first time it happened i just threw new rod bearings on and let it eat for 100miles til i could pull the motor. trust me i never want to hear the "knock knock" again:) ive got a completely separate motor for the next build if it happens.
  3. mine was bone stock when i got it but being young and eager i stripped the engine bay down:) Only thing i really regret was cutting open the airbox. I just hated the clutter in the bay, plus lots of dry vac lines and stuff that didnt work right. I am lucky enough to be the 2nd owner and the first one to mod it. I kept everything from the heat shields, rabs, smog, ac etc that i took off so it could go back to stock.
  4. Update. I did buy a house and move. I drove the car to the new house(only a mile). It started and ran fine(aside from the rod knock). With the car, bikes and all the parts its really tight in my 2 car garage Im at that cross road again. I love this car but realistically it will be probably 5+ years before i can really work on it again. And now that im in a smaller garage i really dont have the space to work on it. What do you guys think? Let it sit another x amount of years just getting fired up every now and then to move oil around, or sell it to someone that will actually get it on the road and enjoy it. If it was any other car it would have been gone a long time ago, i just find it so hard to let this one go. I need a reality check:) It needs another motor built, of which i have a spare good block and rotating assembly. And it needs some rust repair and paint. Suspension bushing etc all need attention too since its been really off the road since the late 90s at this point. Mechanically its great except the rod knock. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7335/10547332276_f9265771a9_b.jpg
  5. No worries on my end. It will probably be 10 more years before i restore mine:) Time flies when you are too busy...
  6. and holy signature batman. please shrink that image down. listen to these guys and clean those contacts. all of them
  7. its the same for both lhd and rhd cars i believe, if thats what you are after, but some holes werent cut, but dimples are there.. Mine has the ABS removed and no heat shields so i can get in pretty close if you need detail on something. My 84 was purchase(have the msrp and deliver) in late 83 so it should be early. old pic. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/downpipe.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/Apr1001.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/frontend.jpg
  8. wheels look good. Not my style for this car but i do like them. I also agree that the tires are too low. Needs more sidewall, even with a lower. If you are going to run such a low profile tire you really need 17 or 18's on this car. The car in the image looks like it has 16x9 rears and 16x8 fronts with probably some 225x45 fronts and 245x40 rears.. are those 16s?
  9. check the group buy section. good parts arent cheap. there are a few ways to do it but all of them involve modifying your stock lowers in one way or another. And don't take this the wrong way, but after all the trouble you have had with your car and all the stuff you have had to replace, i would hold off on lowering it until you are sure its tip top:) Trust me i have been in the same position where i think its running good, spend x amount on some hop up parts, 200miles later something is wrong. just saying.
  10. I dont think its more than drilling the shaft and some filling of the slot to mount the thing but i understand. I dont think ive seen another CAS modded for a starion so unfortunately its a SOLO type thing.
  11. i can take the top off to show you the inside of it if you want. I do not have the connector that plugs into this either. Well i might have one somewhere but i think its easy enough to find. Let me know
  12. Nope. Its not a new distributor. Its a CAS off some other mits that i started to hack up to fit the starion head. I took the main shaft from a stock distributor and modified the CAS housing to hold the bearings/shaft and also have an oring grove to seal to our heads. The make the CAS housing fit it will need a small bit more modification to the slots for the head stud. The slot is slightly off for where it needs to be. The shaft needs to be drilled for a roll pin for the gear as well. There is a hole in the shaft(since its the OEM dist shaft) but its not in the right spot. I marked it but never drilled it. I believe this CAS originally came off a 4g63 eclispse but don't know for sure. here is a good reference about CAS and using it on other cars with MS ecu's. I originally(and i might build one again or keep this one if you/nobody wants it) was going to do an MS/mpi car as well and clearing the room there was big. I think its a great option for MS cars but its not a direct bolt on deal for our cars because of the distance to the cam. Another consideration might be some bracing for the shaft. The stock Dist has casting all the way to the gear, this setup now is a free hanging shaft. One thing i thought about was welding a shaft onto the housing with a bushing in the end. So as I said its not a direct bolt on deal just yet but ive already modified a good bit of it on a lathe to accept the bearing from the starion Dizzy and an oring to seal to the head. http://forums.turbob...ad.php?t=224740 Here are a few more pics on a scrap head. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/PB250025.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/PB250023.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/PB250021.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/PB250020.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/CasDizzy3.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/CasDizzy2.jpg
  13. Actually there was an HKS rally car. HKS made DOHC heads and custom pistons, internals and so on for their 4wd rally car. There wasn't an OEM HKS starion no, but there are HKS starions. The one in the link is nothing special http://groupbrally.com/old/images/mitsubishi/hks4wd/hks1.jpg http://groupbrally.com/?page_id=29
  14. No nick its a project. I built a megasquirt for this car years ago and wanted to control the ignition as well. Instead of running the ford edis stuff i was looking for other options. This optical pickup will not work in place of the OEM dizzy. The idea was to have a signal for an aftermarket ECU.
  15. if you only hear it on decel it doesnt seem like it would be a fluid issue. The pump is on the input shaft. Do you feel the vibration through the shifter? Can you explain it a bit more? there are lots of heat shields and things like that in that area that could have been damaged during install and be making noise. Does it make the same sound in every gear? RPM based?
  16. yeah, getting the itch again. Just have to finish up my racebike for this year and then ill be done building bikes for a bit and will focus on this car. Needs a motor built(have a spare), need to do a brake upgrade in the rear like i did to the front, suspension work, bodywork and paint...
  17. If you pay shipping i dont see why not. I can't imagine shipping would be cheap though. if you want to PM me your info ill try and get a quote for you.
  18. Starter motor - 16-23ftlbs engine to tranny 31-40 mainshaft locking nut - 196-216 countershaft locking nut - 116-137 idler shaft locking nut - 15-43 drain plug - 44 oil filler plug - 22-25 Back up light switch - 22 under cover - 6-7 seal plug - 22-30 speedo clamp - 7.5-9 is that what you need?
  19. if n8 is already working on them ill wait for him. Yeah i know how much work goes into getting decals right. I have a buddy who is a graphic designer and would do them for free im sure, but id rather support someone on here than make a 1 off with him. The other color I saw was on a black car. Black and Gold i think. Most of the ES models I have seen are white with red lettering and black/grey decals. I know i saw the car on here but i can't find pictures.
  20. I don't have anything new. All parts are used. Also I don't know that i have clips or fasteners directly related to the starion. The box of hardware is just a mitsu thing. All the hardware and clips from my car are safely packed away and organized and not in this mess:) My car is complete minus the ac and abs so this isnt a box of stuff from a part out, sorry Just to clarify, There are a few bigger items that are for sale, I dont want to start picking through all this stuff and shipping out small items. I dont think its worth the time or money on either end. The bigger stuff like the airbox, hubs etc are parts that could easily be used. The rest is just random used parts. When i go through and try and catalog whats in the boxes(maybe this saturday) i can let you know if i find hardware/clips etc but i doubt there will be much/enough to justify paying shipping on them. i could be wrong though. JohnnyWadd, hubs are yours if you want them. PM your zip and ill get you a shipping estimate. I think they will fit in a large flat rate box so it should be around $15 hopefully. Speedy, i responded to your PM, ill snap a pic later for you of the turbo.
  21. oh yeah i have a 12a with no compressor housing on it. ran fine in my car but i think has a little shaft play. $25+shipping or free with the pile. i also have various speakers and amps. some 6x9 100w stuff, some 90w door subs and so on. free with the pile:)
  22. Well it's been almost 10 years with a 1600sqft garage and its time to step down to a normal 2 car so a lot of the random parts i've held on to need to go. There are some things I will ship off individually but in general it would be great if someone would just take it all:) There is a bit more but here is the pile. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8510/8525196043_c68b736696_c.jpg First off the individual stuff Ill ship off if someone wants it. Parts distributor from a Non-IC car. I used some of the parts on this CAS setup I was making. I took a CAS(optical pickup) off another mits, modified the housing so it had an oring setup to fit in the stock head. The gear needs a set screw to locate it on the cam gear. The idea was an oem looking setup for distributorless ignition. $25+shipping. there are some other parts with the dist. including the vac advance unit. i can take more pics if needed. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8374/8525189541_2e3e56cb9c_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8372/8526305218_04e369482f_c.jpg It still needs work but is a fun project. Next is an unmolested 86(i think) air can. I had planned on using it on my 84 but it wasnt a bolt in swap. $15+shipping http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8377/8525180141_16257cc04c_c.jpg Id rather not ship(cause rotors and calipers are heavy) but can if someone needs them. Stock brakes from my 84 with rotors. Rotors need to be turned. Brakes worked but im sure could use a rebuild. Comes with the splash shield, calipers, rotors, rubber lines(i wouldnt use) etc. $50 Another thing I will ship but would rather not because of cost. Crank that had spun rods. Needs turned. Free for shipping if someone wants it. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8089/8526292808_74bf93eca9_c.jpg Now to all the random junk. Some if it is probably trash and will probably end up there but i think there is some usable stuff. Box #1. has some rad hoses in it, an isc servo from my 84. Worked but the rubber boot is torn. that was years ago. There is a Tstat/water neck off a DSM 2.0. I was going to use it for an MPI i was working on since you can bolt it on and it has a filler on it. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8098/8525192183_b80c294918_c.jpg Box#1 had a steering wheel wrap/cover, all the oem vac lines i deleted, a heat shield that came from under the turbo i think and some other random bits like a bosch starter in pieces... http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8234/8526307484_273abeedb0_c.jpg Box#3 more random stuff. I t hink im going to keep the fan and AC components cause i might put those back on at some point. I think i have the ABS stuff in that box if someone needs it and some other components. heat shields, fan clutch, some emissions stuff.. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8103/8525193501_725d622b4a_c.jpg 5 speed tranny with bad 5th. maybe good for parts, maybe rebuild 5th. $50 to a good home. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8228/8525186545_dbc50de949_c.jpg 5 lug front hubs and rotors(rotors i think are trash, super rusted). I also have some crown vic interceptor rotors i was going to mock up an OS widebody brake kit with. Good but could be turned. Free to a good home. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8097/8525188829_a5148695d7_c.jpg Ive got a stock exhaust form turbo to muffler(no muffler back) thats been gutted. Its still boxed up. Shipping would probably be nuts. $40+shipping. I also have some ECUs, knock boxes and some other electronic parts from a few different year flattys. I think 85 auto and 85 5 speed ecus. Ill have to look. Some more free stuff that id prefer not to ship again. My brother was a mitsu mechanic for 20 years and when the dealer would revolve stock and pitch anything that was a few years old, him and the other mechanics would just stock pile it. Ive got boxes of oem mits seals, gaskets etc for various cars. lots with part numbers on them. Boxes of hardware, thinks like motor mount bolts, under hood bolts, door push fasterners, again for mits stuff. Also some mechanical components and eletronics. There are some toyota spindles from im guessing a small car, transmission shafts, bearings, seals, electronic relays, wires, vac lines and so on. Over the years i have used this stuff for many things. OEM mits hardware has been the same for awhile. If someone has a few mits cars or wants to go through and figure out what the part numbers are for and sell the stuff they could. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8091/8525185315_ebe258aafe_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8383/8526297412_c6ef93db72_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8241/8525184437_cec2a9bc40_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8103/8525182105_a85b172ec9_c.jpg ive also got a 7" front with a 205 tire on it that i was using for brake mockups. rim has some curb rash, not sure if its straight. Again free to a good home. Might be good for a spare or mock ups for something, painting i dont know. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8510/8526291956_6760537f99_c.jpg So obviously thats a lot of random stuff that I just won't have the room for. I was a little shocked how much there was when i pulled it out, not counting the spares im keeping like motors and so on. So what I would really love is if someone was in the area or swinging by and wants the stuff. With the exception of the ECUs/knock boxes i need to list if someone wants to take it all you can have it for free. It's worth it to me to get it all out in one shot. Im located in blacksburg, VA 24060 and I can get you more pics/info whatever you need on anything. It wasnt worth pulling everything out of the boxes to take pics but i can make a list if someone thinks they would take it all.
  23. awesome! If you need anymore pics let me know. My decals are in good shape, just not the paint around them... Here is an old pic of the rear. Definately want these in addition to the fender/door decals. I know there were at least 2 different color versions of the ES decals, mine is black/grey/red. I would also like a sticker version of the mitsu emblem on the front and on the back left. Any idea what the cost will be when you get them done? i am in no hurry as i dont plan on doing body work/paint for awhile. Just want to grab this stuff when its available.
  24. Does anyone know of a place to source the original exterior stickers? I need to paint my car and will need to get new stickers for the ES decals and Starion and Turbo on the hatch. I have a friend that can draw them so i can have them made at a local shop, but i would prefer not to mess with that if possible. part of me still wants to do a ralliart paint job. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/starion_group_a_04.jpg but i need to get that out of my head:)
  25. okay so i came to a decision, very quick actually:) Im selling the 68 camaro and keeping the starion. After a long discussion with my nephew(who the camaro was supposed to go to eventually) we decided we are going to build a mitsubishi together rather than the camaro. Selling it will get it out of my garage and put some cash in his pocket as well as a good chunk of change towards a 2g GSX that he wants to build. Since the camaro wasnt really mine i never felt right about selling it, but now that gives me the room I need to keep the starion! I will probably still offload a bunch of my parts laying around cause I can only keep so much:) but at least the car will be around.
