yousaveone
My first car was a Conquest narrow with Voice. I drove it once and my parents sold it; I didn't have a license but couldn't resist. 20 some years later I picked up an 88 Starion. Not running. I have had it running and did a leak down. Bad compression to coolant between 2 and 3. A decked head, BSEK, ARP studs, and rebuilt turbo. It leaks worse then before. I'm thinking the head is cracked and ok with putting a new one on. What do you guys think?

Fuze
Agreed, the head is the weak point. Sounds like it's cracked in the usual area unless something happened to your new head gasket while being installed or something.. Spring for a non-jet valve head and you should be in business, my guess at least. I got a nice head from Dad with some valve work, SS valves, HD springs, like a lot of people on here. importwarrior
also make sure the radiator is in the best possible condition.if it is original get it cleaned - rodded out and or replaced withthe CX Racing unit. direct fit bolt on and uses stock fans.radiator might not be up to par. also fans are 25 years old andmight need to be checked as well. they may spin but might nothave as much torque to pull air like when they were new. http://www.ebay.com/...=mtr&rmvSB=true

tsi_tom
Start taking pictures of the things you do so that we can see. LIke importwarrior said make sure the radiator is in the best condition it can be. Also check the thermo sensors and fans. All of theses were bad on my car. The head gasket failed for a reason which is most likely the car over heated. It the exhaust manifold cracked? by the number 4 cyclinder? For example, this was in my radiator: http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/Radiator/DSC01571.jpg Crack in the cylinder head on this car http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Original%20Engine/Tear%20Down/G54B%20crack%20in%20head_zps5gtwhcqv.jpg
importwarrior
Looks like the previous owner used rad stop leak. As far as head you need to probably get a new one from DaD On the site I linked to above.
