Skullzaflare
The Saturn power steering rack are plentiful. I just didn't want ps fluid leaking. stay tuned for further update in the near future. BTW the Saturn tie rod ends fit the quest spindles.thats very good info!hows the length in terms of attached will they have enough adjustment? or will inner ties need modified?i see why you got a used one looking at new and refurb prices and the outrageous core prices lol also, i love the work on your engine bay, im watching this thread as im going to do a similar cleanup on my red
jmactenn
I believe I will have to run the thread up the inner tie rods about another 1 - 11/2 inches on each side and cut off an 11/2 from the ends of the inner tie rods to get an acceptable adjustment range. I will wait until I have everything else done and the full weight of the car on the ground so I can see exactly how much I have to modify the inners. http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b557/John_Mc_Grath/20150206_202244_zpsm6nizfid.jpghttp://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b557/John_Mc_Grath/20150206_202224_zps89leqfgw.jpg Edited February 7, 2015 by jmactenn
Xtreme Industries
that rack mounts up really nice, would you be able to modify the mounting angle to help the steering U joint line up better?
jmactenn
Actually I had a 4" brain fart. I didn't account for the 4 inches to left of the drivers side mounting hole. So I had to cut the mounts off and remake the mountings and I added a little more rake to the rear for the joints. I'm kinda surprised no one noticed.http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b557/John_Mc_Grath/20150211_161840_zpsitack8bg.jpghttp://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b557/John_Mc_Grath/20150211_162110_zpscgx2pjxy.jpg
importwarrior
that is possibly one of the easiest swaps i have seen.
JohnnyWadd
I wonder if the saturn rack can use different outer tie rod ends. Like many subarus, so you could get longer ones.
jmactenn
I never looked for longer ends. I actually have to shorten them about an inch on both sides to allow for alignment.BTW, the thread is m14 x 1.50. jmactenn
Coming together.... Skullzaflare
seems like the angle on the first ujoint would bind up and feel notchy, atleast with weight on the front end
jmactenn
So far no chunkiness, Had to put the car on the ground and move it out of the garage to clean the floor. still don't have the engine in. Steering felt good. I have some leeway if have to adjust the angle.

clow340
. Was wondering what the distance between the inner pivot points are on the steering rack. I know the the newer sw1-sc1-sl1s are 23.5in roughly and the lower control arms are at 25.5in. The pivot points of the old system are 20~ and the lca mounts are at 22~. Did you mount the rack so the tie rods are parellel or At a different angle To the lca's? And are the tie rods the same length As the lca's? Thanks
clow340
Also the ackerman built into the systems stock comes out to having the lower control arms and the tie rods roughly the same angle (parellel) and the same length. Just wanted to throw that in there too.
randy
That is looking really good.
jmactenn
The pivot point for the inner tie rods is almost exactly where the LCA pivot point is. and the lenght is the same as the LCA. I actually had to shorten the inners by an 1.5 inches.
