JAinsworth
My wife noticed the radio in her 08 Silverado seemed to be really hot. She shot it with a temp gun and it was 125 degrees. Anyone had any thoughts or ideas what could be causing this? Don't want to burn the truck down.Jimmy

JAinsworth
Paid for, not trading. Radios are cheaper than new vehicles.Jimmy
ucw458
125f is perfectly fine for electronics. You would expect to see that temp if the car was sitting in the sun all day. Modern intel computer CPUs don't start turning themselves down/off until around 220f. So I wouldn't worry about 125 from the radio.
jszucs
So that radio has the amp on the back of it and the heating vents and most of the other electronics sit in the same pocket in the dash. It does get hot. Even when I gutted one for my own custom touch screen install it still gets hot in there without the radio even.
Shelby
is this some thing new , if it's been hot all along it may be nothing but if it's some thing newI'd check it out ,,you do know the louder the radio is the more power it is using so it will get hotter

Been happening since they added the double din and speed sensitive volume radios. They do get pretty hot in there though. They started installing little fans in the back across the heat syncs about the 98 model years
