TsTKl
Yeah it doesn't work like that. It doesn't keep the location of the control arms. Also they have a degree of angle in them, which will now be backwards. Trust me.. I've done this. The frame rails are wack in this car, you'lln see how much when you get to building motor mounts. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/johnboy9788/x_zps6bbc092b.jpg No big deal,.... now he will just have his LCA in compression instead of tension under braking, LOL. Working and working well are two different things hahaha
R-R-Quest
Had to take a month or so off from the build. Clay's El Camino sprung an oil leak; knocked a hole the oil pan. We pulled the engine and replaced the truck pan with a Holley LS pan. Good to go there. While we were at it, we replaced the TH350 with a 700r4. The car is back on the road again, so it's time to get back to the Conquest!
R-R-Quest
So, this last weekend was spent removing some more stuff. First the rear Bumper.http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-56.jpg Found a little rust on the passenger side bracket. No big deal, it's not pitted or anything.http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-55.jpg
R-R-Quest
Then the gas tank. I'm going to be using a fuel cell instead. Mainly because it is easier and will give me more room for the dual exhaust. http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-60.jpg
R-R-Quest
Also removed the rear subframe and suspension assembly. Pressure washed it (no pics). We'll be disassembling it, cleaning it, painting it, new bushings, struts, etc... http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-58.jpg Was fairly straight forward to remove. http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-57.jpg Do all of the differentials look like this; leaky? R-R-Quest
We also removed the carpet and pressure washed it (no pics, again). But it is nice and clean now. Just needs to finish drying out so I can vacuum it and brush it to look and feel like carpet again. http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-54.jpg http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-53.jpg
R-R-Quest
Here's what it looks like under the carpet. Pretty clean. No rust, other than the drain plugs themselves. http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-67.jpg http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-68.jpg
R-R-Quest
Removed the dash. Not sure what I want to do here yet. Not really interested in putting the factory dash back in. Don't have the skills to build one like Convette. Going to measure it and check some salvage yards to see what kind of options I have. http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-69.jpg http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-66.jpg
R-R-Quest
Here's where the gas tank and rear subframe/suspension were. Again, like most of the car, it's pretty clean. This picture doesn't do it justice. http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-61.jpg
R-R-Quest
Last pic of the day. A shot from behind after all was removed. http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-70.jpg
R-R-Quest
Next will be cleaning and prepping the underside for paint. I still need to remove some exhaust hangers and fuel lines, but for the most part it is ready.
aconro
Looking good. Looks like you found a very clean car. Cant wait to see what you come up with for a dash if you decide to change it.

R-R-Quest
yeah, I'm pretty happy with how clean it is. Deffinitely not keeping the original dash. Going to look for something a little less 80's. The hardest part is finding one the right width, color, and design.
R-R-Quest
nice work Fiji's ROCK ! As much as I love the fiji's, and I always wanted a fiji Conquest since I first saw one back when they were new, it will not stay fiji. I have read on here the fiji is rare on the west coast, but common here on the east coast. I don't want a common color. I have debated with myself for months now what color I would like to paint it. Black has always been my favorite for any car or truck, and for a while, I was set on it. But, again, it is a common color. As of NOW I know what color it will be, but that will remain a secret for know.

R-R-Quest
Hung the passenger side door that I picked up from BC_99 (thanks again) yesterday. Good fit, and it closes much better than the one that came off. Will need to pull it back off come paint time, but for now it looks good. Was glad to get that mangled up door of there. http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-86.jpg
R-R-Quest
Couldn't help myself today. Had do something creative. Been thinking hard about my boring flat, plain hood. Really want an 83 Starion or CF Cowl Hood, but don't have the budget right now. Been saving up for the engine and transmission purchase in February. Decided to go ahead and start a cowl/raised center section of the hood. Nothing dramatic, just about 3/4 of an inch. Not a fan of the huge 3-4 inch cowls like you see on Mustangs and Camaros. R-R-Quest
The front will be down about 1/4" from what you see here and the rear up about 1/4". Again, nothing dramatic. http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa398/dhollin73/LS%20Conquest/Conquest-91.jpg
Xtreme Industries
would be nice if you could extend the rear of the cowl towards the windshield a little. maybe an inch. not too much, just a subtle detail. look forward to seeing the progress on that. R-R-Quest
I know exactly what you are talking about, and that would nice, but at the same time, it might be out of my range of ability. I cut the line an inch from the back of the hood to keep the rigidity. It's going to take every bit of my craftsmanship to make this work as it is. autotr8er2
Try a cowl extension on a scrap hood. Bet you can do much better than you think.
