tsi_tom
Took the transmission out because I needed to clean out the oil that was caked in the bell housing. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Reassemble%20of%20the%20engine/removedtransmission_zps8dd1df88.jpg Before the engine bay cleaning I needed to move the car outside. It hasn't seen the outside in 10 years. The brakes didn't work anymore. I bled them with the help of my wife. Look at the nasty fluid. This was clean 10 years ago when I put new hoses, pads, and rebuild calipers. Time is tough on the car even though it is covered in a garage. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Reassemble%20of%20the%20engine/badbrakefluid_zps0b3fb8f4.jpg Outside http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Reassemble%20of%20the%20engine/conquestoutside_zps41d9c8da.jpg Techboy came over with his pressure washer and we got to work. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Reassemble%20of%20the%20engine/dirtyenginebay2_zpsf252c6be.jpg http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Reassemble%20of%20the%20engine/cleanenginebay_zpsabb475ad.jpg http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Reassemble%20of%20the%20engine/dirtydriverssideenginebay2_zpsf0cf79cd.jpg http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Reassemble%20of%20the%20engine/cleandriverssideenginebay_zps6e7bc363.jpg http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Reassemble%20of%20the%20engine/dirtydrivessideenginebay_zps4ef1b340.jpg http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Reassemble%20of%20the%20engine/cleanpassengersideenginebay_zps81c2fe69.jpg http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Reassemble%20of%20the%20engine/cleanfrontenginebay_zps36e4bd93.jpg Gettting ready for the flywheel installation. I need to thank Techboy for helping out again. I couldn't have installed the engine without him. BuGG this happened quick today when I called Techboy. Perhaps we can meet up when installing the transmission.

techboy
Quick work is right ... if you take away the BS chat time, I think we did it a/b an hour. I love that valve cover ... makes me want to take my powdercoated one off and polish my spare. Edited March 24, 2014 by techboy

tsi_tom
Now that's a clean install and quick work.Great job! This project is coming together great. Love me a yellow quest. Thanks guys! Today I cleaned up the transmission. It was covered in oil. There was a lot of oil in the bell housing. So not contaminate the new clutch it was cleaned. Before cleaning http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Transmission/transmissionbeforecleaning_zps6a52b1c9.jpg After cleaning http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Transmission/cleanuptransmission_zps62eadde7.jpg Dropped the pan to clean it also http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Transmission/transmissionpan_zpscf475555.jpg Crud on the inside. tsi_tom
So this weekend you'll be putting your transmission in while I'll be taking mine out!!! If the rear seal comes in I will. I placed my order with mitsparts.com today.
tsi_tom
3 mm ID vacuum line has come in from boostcontroller.com http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Reassemble%20of%20the%20engine/3mmvacuumline_zpsd743f37c.jpg I am looking for a picture on how the vacuum lines route to the left side of the engine(near the aircan) and the factory way of mounting them. tsi_tom
I replaced the rear transmission seal today. That was a little more work than I expected. I tried to get the seal out with a Snap On seal puller http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Putting%20the%20Conquest%20back%20together/Snaponsealpuller_zps75c16d3a.jpg The seal was in very tight so I removed the rear cover on the transmission http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Putting%20the%20Conquest%20back%20together/Reartransmissioncover_zps7328fc5a.jpg Then I tried again with the seal puller. That didn't work either. Then I tapped with a screwdriver like this... being careful not to hit the aluminum. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Putting%20the%20Conquest%20back%20together/Howtoremovetheseal_zps019e399f.jpg That worked great! Tools used and seal part number. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Putting%20the%20Conquest%20back%20together/Toolstopulltherearsealonthetransmission_zps2a203c86.jpg I got the transmission installed and was feeling great until I went to put on the flywheel cover. I noticed this part wasn't installed. Shoot!!! http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Putting%20the%20Conquest%20back%20together/Enginetotransmissionplate_zpsce5337ec.jpg So after 30 minutes of sorrow I figured there was no reason to belly ache over the mistake and remove the transmission, clutch and flywheel. tsi_tom
Whoa dude are you gonna drop the trans again to put that in now? Yea....I had to drop the transmission again. I least I didn't fill it up with oil, have the drive shaft installed, and shifter installed. After a year I forgot about that plate. It was one of the first things I took off the engine a year ago. tsi_tom
It is very close. I am connecting all the electrical these days. I also have to finish the vacuum lines.
tsi_tom
Almost back to life I bought a new battery and connected all the electrical back up. I got a new ground bolt and washer. Washer are no longer available in the U.S. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Electrical/Mainenginegroundandwasher_zpsd1b0b64f.jpg Just to be sure there wasn't a fire as soon as I connected the battery I tested the positive connection with a 5 amp fuse. I've come too far to risk a fire or harness melt down. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Electrical/5amptest_zps094e5a0b.jpg Nothing major occurred. So I turned on the headlights and popped the fuse. Too much current to raise the lights. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Electrical/Conquestopeninghereyes_zps780689d1.jpg Using my Fluke, I measured the current draw. 450 milliamps. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Electrical/Currentdrawat450milliamps_zps5d97db78.jpg I wondered why it was that much. I then noticed that the drivers side interior light was on. Turned that off and got 30 mills. http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Electrical/Currentdrawat40milliamps_zpsede56e85.jpg She is coming back to life! http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Electrical/Awake_zps06c08d80.jpg http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Electrical/Illuminatedbrakelights_zps47969165.jpg http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/The%20Missouri%20Project/Electrical/Dashpanelcomingbacktolife_zps462798c3.jpg Now I will go get oil to fill her up.
