What a great job cutting away that rusted area!

Red door...wonder what the history is behind that?

looks like Mark is making great strides in saving that panel, and holy crap at the amount of filler on that beforehand.

Progress looks great.

Thanks D!

I'm very happy with what he's doing. He texted me about all that filler, but I had no idea it was that much until I saw the pics...holy cow. Thinks he can save the panel...looks like he's gonna do it!

One of my favorite things is tearing into a car and seeing what it's life story reveals. My best guess is this car got sideswiped, with most of the damage in the door. A red door was painted and swapped on and they beat the 1/4 out as best as they could and then got crazy with the filler. There may also be a different fender on the car on that side, but I won't be sure until I start sanding on it.

I got a stud welder and dent puller that can tweak the 1/4 out much closer and with a little metal shrinking and some filler should be fine. It'll be a lot of work, but probably not as much as patching the front half of the 1/4 panel.

That rust repair on the back is pretty much nothing compared to the front part of the 1/4. Although, I was feeling around in there tonight and can still feel a little rust bubbling on the inside, so I think I may cut it open bigger to make sure I get everything.

I'll be getting into the filler work this weekend.

I'm very happy with how it's going...confirms my choice in hauling it all the way down there to you!

you should get better gas mileage without all that filler on there...lol

Great progress, what color scheme are you going with? or is it top secret, being the blue angels colors and all... lol

 that alone would be worth the cost!

Color scheme is going to be very similar to the blue angels or university of michigan...dark blue with a goldish yellow for trim elements.

Well some people love it ... I swear they must eat it....looks like tortilla dough so I know why the southside places like it lol but some of em are bondo masters to turn an burn and out the door BUT....if ya wanna keep the car then ya gotta do it right. Like the foundation of a house over time the cracks will appear and the flaws will show so don't build a million dollar house on a 5k dollar foundation. Thats what I tell my clients who don't like training legs only upper body lol!!

So with scallops similar to the Blue Angels? Come on you have to give a hint or something... it excites me every time somebody decides to think outside the box with these cars.

OMG...you gotta be kidding me. It's pancake bunny's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate...Darth Cookie.
