D_Venable
I agree, they look good, but would suit the car color better if they were silver. The gold works so well on the stock wheels because of the polished lips
D_Venable
Had an early day at work, so came home, and went to town on tearing the front end apart. This past Sunday, I'll pulled the motor, as I suspected that head gasket was already blown. Once I got it the motor out, I got a good look under the exhaust manifold, where there was a good amount of smoke rolling out from, and the block was wet under 3 and 4. While pulling the motor, I found that the 9's on the front rub the front of the inner fender liner and the metal up there too. SO, I've decided to go ahead and tub the front wheel wells. I needed to pull a lot of the stuff out of the engine bay anyway, as the previous brake master cylinder leaked, and while it sat those 4 years from when I moved to MN and was able to go get it. I threw that headgasket on last year just to be able to drive that car for a bit, but the plan has been to run the DTHSTAR's, built bottom end, motor, but with the 17C TD05H that I had/have on the Durban. so here's the restart of the sorta resto-mod pics from Sunday... And now onto today's progress... And those are the 18x12 Rota P45-R3 with 295/30r18's with a combined offset of -13 (+20, and a 33mm spacer)
Technology
Good job labeling every nut and bolt. That's the key to putting things back how they are supposed to be. With the front inner fender tubs, will you be cutting large sections out to make them just like the flatty or will you only tub it where it's rubbing? D_Venable
like the DTHSTAR, but I'm gonna do my best to make it cleaner. I'm gonna do a radiused edge between the pieces with the sheetmetal hammers/sandbag and english wheel my dad gave me (he made the english wheel) to make it all as clean as possible with almost no use if filler if I can help it
tankbob
Just picked up some 9s to run on the front and I need to paint them. That color gold you have is almost exactly the same as my wheels and I was wondering what you painted yours with? I planned on picking up spray paint from autozone. Convette
Looking good man. Get rid of all those brackets and crap, it looks so much better without.
D_Venable
That's the plan John, just gotta figure out where I'm gonna relocate everything to, as I don't want to put it all inside the fender, but I want the wire tucked look. I want to setup my 60mm Hella projectors while I have everything apart, if I do that, I can put almost everything under the headlight housings then, with a shield under it all to protect it all from the elements. I just got my new brake master cylinder, and new motor mounts today too. Got them from RockAuto, and the master was a wholesaler closeout, so it was only $56, WOOT!
Convette
Yeah never cared for the inner fender thing, although it looks awesome it just scares me having fuses and stuff in there....maybe cause my tires have smoked holes in my inner fenders..lol I only keep them in to protect my door hinges. D_Venable
yeah, I'll be keeping the inner fender lining, just trimming it back a little so I keep the back half as you have. I might even make a shield on the front edge, just to keep debris out of more areas.
AndyW
Those rears are enormous dude! Seriously badtail lol I thought my 275's was alot of tire... boy was I wrong.
tankbob
Paint turned out a little darker than my wheels are but I like it better much more "gold" than before imo. Thanks! Going to be painting all my wheels that color once I find the cash to blow tires for the 9s.
D_Venable
went and saw a movie this morning, so I didn't get as much done as I had hoped, but just need to remove the tranny, fuel lines, and the clutch line, then it's on to cleaning, then tubbing and rearranging before I do the paint

D_Venable
Andrew, I wish, but I don't have the extra funds to buy the parts necessary to do it. I was planning on working on the car yesterday, but ended up hanging out with some friends for a lot longer than I originally planned. Tonight though! D_Venable
Welp, I would have made some updates earlier this week, but my cable modem quit working, got a new one now though I've past the point of no return on the tubbing, I've got the stock metal cut out on the driver's side, and have the tubs tacked and partially welded in. They're gonna need a little filler work on the corner (rounded corner where the 2 pieces of the tub meet). I hammered, rounded, and use the english wheel to round the corner so I wouldn't have a point like the DTHSTAR and Convette's tubbing jobs have. but it's my second time doing metal work with these tool, so it wasn't right the first time round, lol. OH, and just for the hell of it, I threw one of the 12's on, had to stack the 15mm and the 33mm spacers to get it clear of the strut though, lol, and it stuck out by about 2" when I set the fender back up. -Derek
dmyers151
That's some damn fine metal work for a "second timer"

D_Venable
No work done ON the car today, but I got the aluminum plates cut and break-formed (for strength, its only 1.5mm aluminum plate. I already had it) for the Hella 60mm projectors. Rolled out to work just to use the sheet-metal break, my vise just wasn't getting the job done, nicely anyway. -Derek Edited May 27, 2013 by D_Venable
ZacMan
Oooooh, those look nice, are you ditching the pop-ups? Keen to see progress on that, I've always thought of giving it a go.
D_Venable
yep, I ditching the pop ups, I want to do a wire tuck, but I'm not wanting to put everything in the fenders like others have done, too much work to get to it when you need to. I'm going to place all I can under the headlights, with a deflector shield to protect it all from the elements
