StreetVelocity
I know its not a part per say but wasn't some of the paint jobs more rare than others like Palermo grey? i know 99% of factory paint jobs are ruined anyway.
MikeMeyerhoff
There are certian colors that are rare, mostly because they were one year only colors. I wouldn't consider any of the multi year colors are really rare (palermo). There are two colors that were 89 starion only making them rare for a widebody due to the low production volume. With flatties, there are a lot of rare colors that are rare because they are one year only and flatties aren't as popular as widebody so the survival rate is less. Ravon17
With all the new people showing up recently, it seems some are wanting the rare parts and are surprised at what the market price is for them. So I thought I would post up what I know of. Feel free to add to or edit what you think is right. Cars:1989 Starion: Although there were both Conquests and Starions sold as 1989 models, only 159 of them were badged as Starions.1985.5 Intercooled Flatty: This was the only factory intercooled Flat body. The only 5 lug flatty. These were only built for one month in May of 1985. There is no documentation of how many were made.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/IMG_3268.jpg1983 Starion: The first year model and only Starions were sold that year. Awesome Post!!!http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/BZIWevwB2kKGrHgoOKiUEjlLmV48BKlJU3lrIw_3.jpg Body Parts:1983 Hood: This is the hood with a scoop on the front and two side vents. In great shape these usually sale for $500-700. Less depending on condition. Most sellers do not want to ship because of the size of the hood and the probability that it will get ruined in shipping. There are reporduction hoods available, both is FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) and Carbon Fiber. Those typically are between $500 and $800 Shipped.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/untitled2.jpg 1983 Taillights: These looks like rows of tiles stacked three high. They Sale from $200-300 depending on condition for a nice set.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/BZIWhKQCGkKGrHgoOKi0EjlLmUvDqBKlJVCf6Nw_3.jpg 1983 Mirrors: Different than all other year models Window Louvers: A three piece set. The back glass always metal, the rear quarter windows either metal or plastic. Mounting hardware is usually missing, but very important. A rear window piece usually sells for $200 with mounting hardware and the sides also for $200. These are hard to ship items also.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/for%20sale%20stuff/IMG00514-20110513-1608.jpg Wide body Mudflaps: These are molded to the lines of the body and are made of a flexable rubber. Hard to find in good condition with all of the mounting tabs intact. Usually sell for $300.Flatty mud flaps are not as rare as these, and do not fit widebody cars.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/sqroller3mf.jpg 1985.5 Side moulding: A ten piece set of moulding about 3" tall that run down the sides of the car. The pieces in front of the rear wheels are inprinted "Turbo Intercooler". These were an option on the 85.5 Starion.I've only seen a few of these sale, but they were around $250-350.See 85.5 pic above. Turbo Door handels: Only found on 84-86 models. Typically $50-80 Double slit side vents: 83-85 Starions had different side vents than all other cars.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/100_1191.jpg Non- US market tail lights: European, Australian, and Japanese markets all got different taillights than the US. These are rare here and sale for around $300 when they pop up.Early years:http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/IMG_2321.jpgLater Years:http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/DSC_0163.jpg Flatty and 3 piece air dam: The are not available from the dealer and no reproductions have been made. SHP wheels: Less than half of the 88-89 models had the SHP option. These wheels were 16x8 +18 front and 16x9 +0 rear. They can be identified in a number of ways, but the easiest is to look at the stampings in the backside of the spokes. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/for%20sale%20stuff/IMG00519-20110513-1611.jpg Interior:Pricing varies on interior parts, so for the most part, I won't even speculate.1988-89 Models:Tan Leather Interior: Most of these years were sold with Black or Maroon leather. The Tan was sold in two different shades, one lighter on darker depending on year.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/IMG_3407.jpgTan, Black or Maroon Cloth: With most of the cars being leather, Cloth in any color is rare. The soild black, tan, or Maroon are called "Straight Line" as the pattern in the cloth. There are also a fine checkered pattern in Black and Maroon. Also, a pattern that is mostly black with little dots of color here and there.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/IMG_3425.jpghttp://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/IMG_0926.jpgSport Interior: This is a mix of cloth and leather in the same car. Usually the bolsters have leater patches. This was only for 89.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/a27b_3.jpg 1986-87: The cloth in these models was very plush and is regarded by many as the most comfortable SQ seats ever.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/2012-01-09_11-30-41_680.jpg 1986: This year model is regarded as having the best leather used in the construction of the seats of any of the years. Manual Seat Belts: In cars from 83-86 there were door mounted maunal seat belts. The automatic seat belts of the 87-89 cars are pretty reliable, but if they fail, they are a pain to fix. Typically sale for around $100 for a complete set. Replaces release levers in console with coin tray. Auto down window switch: Only availible in the 89 model year. Typically $50 or so 1983 Shift knob: Different than other year models.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/100_1150.jpg 1983 Center console cubby: Below radiohttp://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/100_1212.jpg European 160mph Speedometer: Swaps right in as far as I know. Only about 3 in the US that I know of. Floor Mats: Any color or conditon OEM floor mat is rare. Most are worn out and thrown any in the past 20 years. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/for%20sale%20stuff/IMG_4767.jpg OEM Parts:Parts no longer avaiable:Steering coupler.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/2012-01-09_16-28-08_960.jpgAir damsMost Body partsHeater corehttp://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/IMG_4140.jpg After Market Parts:Tokico Blue Rear shocksKYB GR-2 Rear Shocks (if you see any of these for sale on ebay, contact the seller before you send money to be sure they have these in stock)

ZacMan
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/7_copy1.jpg There is also a super rare body kit for the flatty. I dont know who made it, but I think it was an Austrailian company. I think only a few ever made it to the US.http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll231/nomad1856/Rare%20items/gallery_16466_463_83278.jpg The yellow car has an early front lip made by Colt-Speed. They also did a complete front replacement that is still quite popular, and available I think. http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/xx141/ProZac83/Starion%20Project/cbstarion1.jpghttp://www.coltspeed.com/ A company here in New Zealand does a complete bodykit for a narrowbody. I'm not a huge fan, but if fitted properly can look quite nice. Note how the 3 piece spoiler is a bit different, no cut-out in the back for a central stop, and its a bit bigger and sharper.http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/xx141/ProZac83/Starion%20Project/STARION1sized.jpghttp://i750.photobucket.com/albums/xx141/ProZac83/Starion%20Project/STARION2sized.jpghttp://i750.photobucket.com/albums/xx141/ProZac83/Starion%20Project/IMG00613b.jpgI used to own that red car some 10 years ago, looked terrible when I owned it though, credit to new owner for how it looks now!http://www.aerotech.co.nz/Part-Mitsubishi-Starion.html Now, the blue car above i believe has the ralli-art kit sideskirts and rear pods. I'm not 100% sure on this however, but I've heard them refered to as the ralli-art items before.http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/xx141/ProZac83/Starion%20Project/32175280003_large.jpgHowever, the site this picture is from says they're 'Vestatec' items. I believe many companies copied the ralli-art ones though.http://www.cardomain...subishi-starionThey are damn sexy however, definately my favorite kit (if you have to have one) on a flatty. Factory narrowbody roof spoilers have to be pretty rare? Note, it shouldnt have the high-stop lights fitted, and they usually have 'Starion' logos on the flat sides, but some idiot removed them on my car in an attempt to re-badge it as a Conquest.http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/xx141/ProZac83/Starion%20Project/P1280534.jpg Edited May 6, 2012 by ZacMan
ZacMan
Oh, and 'small' housing narrowbody 3.909:1 factory LSD diffs. They're pretty damn rare and expensive. Luckily my car came with this sticker:http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/xx141/ProZac83/Starion%20Project/P1300550.jpgThe guy that ordered my car went a bit nuts with the option book though, the boot spoiler, roof spoiler and diff were options, so if they're all factory fitted, thankyou my awesome japanese man! I am in your debt!
ZacMan
Oh, and the factory four-wheel-steering starion here in Christchurch. Apparently it was one of 3 built to prototype the system for the up-coming GTO. Its a weird weird car. The other two were apparently destroyed. Widebody, but 4 stud. Apparently the hubs are factory 5 stud ones, but modified back to 4 stud. Has the fully digital dash. Guy on the Austarion forums got hold of it and is rebuilding it. ZacMan
I have some very old one on my server, which is currently down. When i get a chance to fix it, I'll post them up. Also very rare are non-turbo starions, only produced in 82, and maybe early 83. Came with a flat bonnet, different rad support, firewall, cable clutch, and solid axle rear end. Zone
Did 82's have electric windows ?
ZacMan
Mine does, but depends on the trim level/options decided upon by the original buyer. Mine has the GSRIII package, but a GSRI would probably not have had electric windows.

sellerfeller
factory gull wing doors. pic and info from the following webpages... http://homepage.ntlw...1/gullwing.html http://www.starion-turbo.co.uk/ MITSUBISHI MOTORS released only 5 Gulwing Starion's in total. Built from the GSR-VR 2.6ltr in 1988. Mitsubishi employed a private factory to build the Gulwing Starion as a special, However There is a rumor that only 3 were actually sold, The price of a new one was 6,000,000yen. Today it is believed One is in Tokyo or Yokohama & One is in Nagoya, And another one is in Miyazaki-prefecture. Two of them (Tokyo & Nagoya) were released by Mitsubishi. Another one was built by the owner who ordered factory parts privately. This cost him 2,500,000yen to build, This Gullwing had a motor-powerd door rising unit. This placed a strain on the battery- One situation arose when the owner had to climb in from the rear hatch due to a battery failure. Now it has been modified to a manual system due to many problems with the mechanism. Another problem is the lack of strength in the roof & floorpan. The GULLWING was created for a police story TV program called "GORILLA", That's what the plastic model (released in Japan) relates to. The TV company had TWO Gullwing cars for filming, due to the problems with it. If you get the oppotunity to go to Japan, I recommend that you visit the "MITSUBISHI AUTO GALLERY" in MITSUBISHI MOTORS OKAZAKI FACTORY AICHI-prefecture.You can see a real Gr.A STARION &' STARION 4WD! http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.stacey1/images/gull-3.jpg
ZacMan
83 (us) also has digital dash.Doesnt the 82 (japan) also have manual steering? It was available, but probably only on the GSR-I package, which also had the manual winders.

ZacMan
I dont know if you guys are including Japanese parts in this list of rare bits.. But the OP is incorrect about the 85.5 being the only intercooler flatty... JD Starions in AUS were intercooled, and intercoolers were an option on almost all japanese starions. Ive seen a couple of factory 83 intercooled models kicking around my home town in the last few years.
Dartomotive
I had a Technica. That had a special dash. That might be a kinda rare item. I never knew how rare those models were. I saw my 87 on Chrylser used lot in 88. There was no internet or site like this back then. Does anybody know how rare those models were? mrvwbug
There is no documentation of how many were made. (It has been pointed out further in this thread that this statement is not true. These were produced in other months in 1985. Also, there were also intercooled flatty Conquests, which appear to been even more rare than the already rare intercooled flatty Starion) This is absolutely not true. My 1985.5 Dodge Conquest was built in late March 1985. It has the 5-lug and the intercooler. I have the original paperwork from the original owner and original sales slip. I think 568 of these Conquests were made. An equal number of 85.5 Starions were built as well. I estimate only 50-100 Conquests and about 100-200 Starions for that 1985.5 year exist. These are good-known examples exist today...Something in a junk yard or not restored or showable condition would not qualify. Just my 2 cents... Cheers, Slim Jim
