19cturbo
One of the things I remember most about that road is the amount of sand, dirt, and loose gravel in the corners. We're glad you're alive. There are some pretty serious drops of that road. or me drifiting the corners.. lol, just glad to see justin is ok..

fijiblueman
a few years ago we were driving on a highway in my expedition at about 55 miles an hour. A pickup ran a stop sign to my left and went to cross all four lanes of traffic right infront of me. I tapped the brakes looked right and turned the wheel to head straight for the bike path that was deserted. ended up putting 2 scratches in my expedition instead of totalling it the other truck and a damn good possibility of hurting my wife 6 kids and everybody in the other truck. Sounds like you made a good choice brother. Glad the both of you are ok someday when we meet i will buy you a beer. Paul

Dave-O
Now...before you people who don't look at the fact that at least I'm still alive...I had little choice on where to go while regaining control of the car. I could have kept straightening my car out, and running HEAD ON into the other white Conquest, possibly killing all 3 of us since the impact would have been a total close to 70 MPH. I think I made the right last second decision to aim for the tree. Not to mention, if YOU driving, you would have been likely of been traveling at the rate of speed. My luck is where I exactly went off the road. Just 5ft to the right, there was no tree, but a 30ft drop off. If I had went down into the gully, I would have likely put the car onto its roof, and me Joe would have been seriously injured. As for the long skid mark comment, there were marks in the road prior to me being there. The marks I left, where about 10ft long..leading onto the shoulder of the road. All in all...me and Joe are awake and moving around. Quite a bit more sore this morning then last night...but that's to be expected. We are going to be okay. Been there man, I'd say one down instead of 3-4 is a much better outcome. I'd have aimed for the tree too. Get feeling better fellas.
cyberquest
i am very sad for justin also, i was in the group riding with him when it happend along with coldscrip, dad, and starquestrescue. we were all pushing our cars hard, even me and my manual steering were taking the turns. abour 3/4 in me and candi decided we had enough being beat to death by the stuff in my hatch so i literally slowed down to about 15mph and was taking it real easy, then we were getting flagged down saying justin wrecked just ahead of us. these pics are probably some of the last pics of justins car that were taking minutes before the accident.http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF001.jpghttp://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF004.jpg we all had to pull over cause Randy blew off his blow off valve literally.http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF006.jpgjustin i know its not much but i did get a decent shot of your car to remember it by.http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF009.jpg and now for the bad pics. i kinda walked down the hill in front of the car, warning these pics will bring tears to your eyes. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF022.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF013.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF014.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF016.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF017.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF018.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF019.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF020.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b343/vcyberbob/PF/PF021.jpg

Coke
Thanks Dave. We got the car loaded onto Dad's trailer. I will be driving Randy's white 87 back home to Ohio tomorrow...and then trailering my car back to Randy's shop. Tuesday morning I'll get my dad to come down to Ohio and pick Joe and myself + the car up, then finally bring her home to New York. It's sunk in a lot more today of what has happened, and I'm more bummed about it today. Still trying to stay in good spirits; the best I can do at this point. Time to walk down the strip with the rest of the gang and get a bite of dinner. I'll post again once I get home sometime Tuesday. ucw458
If this truly is a 60-70 mph crash then damn these cars are safe. It looks like it didn't hurt the doors or windshield just the front of the car. I may have to convince my wife to drive one now. I saw a 45 mph accident escort vs mr2 and the escort passenger and driver were both hauled off in ambulances. Needed the jaws of life to get the doors open. I may have to sell the wife's escort and have her drive my other SQ. I'm sorry about your loss justin but I am truly amazed at how well the can held together. Bad2Rass
This road recently had some new paving done and unfortunately the road surface was littered with debris. Lots of gravel, sand and all kinds of grit. I was sliding around in my FWD Lancer. I'm just really happy everyone made it out ok. I couldn't believe it when I heard it happened once our group made it to the bottom. Have a safe trip home and enjoy the rest of PF10 Justin. See ya next time bud. You may be right, but let us also keep in mind that at least as long as I have been around here (which is fairly lengthy), we've enjoyed a pretty damned good safety record. Matter of factly, I don't recall any other cars getting bent up at a meet as long as I have been a member here. I know of a few fried engines, and other assorted mechanical mayhem, but safety wise, we've done pretty well. Tim
Burton
We came pretty close to it in 07. Bump drafting cars at 75 on the interstate isn't exactly "safe".
