polarisman14
Wow, looks like I picked the right time to check this thread out for the first time. Very, very, very impressive work--reminds me of the amount of motivation I had to work on my 88 and 87 when I was 19 graduating the local tech school with my manufacturing engineering degree. Difference is, I had motivation. You have follow-through. I'm now 24 and am doing my best to do a good job but yours still puts my project to shame on a daily basis...Keep up the good work and I'll definitely be following this in the future. Frenchie has done an outstanding job with this restore, especially for someone that goes to the North Avenue trade school He has my upmost respect for his talent and diligence restoring a starquest. He should be motivation for a lot of us old timers to get ours looking as good as his. Jimmy

Frenchi934
Thanks everyone for your kind words. Its really nice to hear that kind of stuff after spending a lot of time and money on a project. I cant wait to have it out on the road. Today I refurbed the under the hood seals/ heat sheilding. Also put some new windshield wipers on front and rear. http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/549/photo0169y.jpg Edited January 9, 2011 by Frenchi934
Frenchi934
What is the wattage on those H3 bulbs? I could not find ANY selective yellow H3 that were 35wattthey're 85 watt bulbs. It seems a lot of guys run 55watt bulbs too so if you can find those thats what I would go with. The previous owner had 100 watt bulbs installed in the fogs before I changed them out so I think it will be fine, but I am going to keep an eye out and see how they do. Killtodie
I bought some 75watt bulbs and they kept burning out my fuse. I store bought some 55watt bulb to replace one of my burned out ones that came with teh car and it still kept burning out the fuse. I then found out that these cars take 35 watt bulbs and when I bought those, no more trouble. I hear people run 55watt as well but I had trouble. Maybe because one was 55 and the other was 35, but who knows. Might give 55 a try again, when both are the same wattage. Also, are those sealed beams you just bought new? Its strange that my 100 watt ones never burnt it out though...?Either way, thats my project for tomorrow, so I'll update with findings when I figure out what's going on with that. BIGbCraig
Don't want to get in his way or otherwise interfere with whatever update Frenchi's preparing, but it's been a couple days and... (Sorry Frenchi, but school isn't taking any time yet and I'm bored / want to see a bunch of finished pics!!!) I'd just like to offer him a congratulations on a great-looking build, having smogged it etc., and getting it out on the streets in such a short time! Yup, it's up and running. Running well, it seems (haven't see it yet). Edited January 19, 2011 by BIGbCraig

Frenchi934
Alright guys. Its been a while. Since last update I've put over 300 miles on the car and it runs great. Running 10lbs with a shimmed/resprung wastegate. No boost controller, so that must have been done when it was upgraded to the 16g turbo. Heres another picture of that refurbished heat matting under the hood: http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/6823/sdc11179ar.jpg Since last update: I modified my foglights with vents to accomodate the extra heat of the 85 watt bulb. So far I have not experienced any blackening or problems with this set up. But ill be sure to post if i have any. The vents are directly under the metal box inside. on the bottom of the fog: http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/8896/sdc11181p.jpg http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/6907/sdc11182d.jpg Also undercoated the whole car. Including wheel wells and fuel tank. http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/8467/sdc11206a.jpg http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/1681/sdc11207l.jpg http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/9932/sdc112082.jpg A few of the car not in sunlight first: http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/4041/sdc11185m.jpg http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/9097/sdc11188k.jpg Heres a quick photoshoot. No fancy camera or detailing. I just did a basic hand wash and heres what she looks like. http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/2505/sdc11209k.jpg http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/749/sdc11210e.jpg http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/4167/sdc11213e.jpg http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/1128/sdc11214x.jpg http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/6194/sdc11215m.jpg http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/421/sdc112182.jpg So what is next? In the near future I plan on: upgrading to 3" exhaust made from mandrel bent piping. (since it passed emissions already). And later down the road will come a full suspension refurb as well as new front seat covers. Thanks for all the support and comments during the build. It feels great to finally be done working on it for a while. (plus anything i do to it now will be fun stuff ) Edited January 23, 2011 by Frenchi934

natallica
Wow...(hold on I need to pick my jaw up off of the floor ) Man, you did a FANTASTIC job. I am in the middle of the same project at the moment, and I can only hope mine turns out as well. You have a nice eye for detail too. I'm sure your very proud. I have intentions of doing blue as well. Is yours "Figi" or darker? It looks darker to me, unless it's the lighting. I wanted to go with a metallic colbalt color (a little bit flake in it..but nothing too tacky) I really like that shade of blue dude...good choice! -N8 Edited January 24, 2011 by natallica
