side note

went digging in the black 88 found that the last wire on the second ecu connection had a wired sheilding (like the oil gauge wire) and it was broken by a test bite. after a couple of weeks of sitting the car was running fine and when i wiggled that wire just before the ecu i heard the fluxuating idle again. today im working on some engine bay cosmetics that i think you will all like.....

it may not be tottally visable but just enough i figure to get them to notice the lil extra touch. question (again back on the twin turbo) I took a ride in my machanic's supra. boy that lag is noticable. two bigger sequential??? what do you think

I don't have that lag, i have 2 boost controllers http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif I think if your gonna change those out you might as well go single. was his an auto or stick?

his is an auto. it was anti climatic until it kicked in and that kinda took the wow factor out of it. i defer to you.. so tow boost controllers takes care of it??

 

also was it you or dax the hole cut on the frame rail for the altinator how big of a square that is??

It was Dax. He "clearanced" the driver's side frame brace that runs on an angle from the lower radiator support to the driver's side frame rail. There are pictures of that in his build thread.

 

I believe he did it for the A/C compressor.

Ok I finally got the bumper off and guess wat its infested with rust

the tapper of the bumper bracket hits the outside pipe of the condensor so i may have to grind that down

so once the condesor is pushed up it looks like it will work

that intercooler is heavyyyyyy it may have to mount upside down

the oil cooler for th transmittion I still dont know what to do with and the AC has its own cooler

 

 

I put a bid on a radiator but i bid 30 bucks less lets see if he will let me have it

ok man seems as if im goin fast and furious lol. I looked close at the bumper and im thinking if i have sombody weld pannel patches it should be ok i mean really if i get into a serious front end im gona be more concerned witht he 2j.I also trimmed a bit of the bumper brackets so it would fit.

I hacked off the cross dubing of the intercooler as it was getting in the way.

I bent the AC line in such a wierd way that it bends opposite to what it originally was so as not to get in the way of the front facia.

so now the intercooler is resting upright and ill weld L brackets to it to bolt to the bumper.

Ill take lonnnnnnng screws and bolt the condensor to its original location.

Serpent or Lad is that enough space for the rad?? and im thinking of flat fans to sandwitch between the condesor and rad and another infront of the condesor.

ok before it rains i jumped out in the yard and started again. I moved the condensor forward bent the ac pipe in an ungodly manner, and took that bottle thing of the condensor and moved it to the other side of the rad support.

 

 

I think ill have to cut a notch in the bumper to push the intercooler up to give the fan room

then ill weld on a wide L bracket to the intercooler to fasten to the bumper simular to this

I got about 2.5 or three inches but i can push it out more (if i cut the notch in the bumper) my question is will the fan do any good to the rad pushing through the ac or should I get some kind of thin pull fan for the other side?

Drift, have you ever been in ny on a hot day in a Quest with the windows down? not to mention leather seats ooo wee, quite unbareable. :lol: Its not always hot here but there will be that one week where you will melt (as proven by the last two summers) so your choice then is to not drive or take the bus, not me. If im gona build this thing its going to be for my comfort as well as my need for speed.

dude thats why my quest sits most of the summer. once the humidity comes in its a wrap. my car has seen the road 7 times so far

Side note. I was at court yesterday fighitng a loud exhaust ticket and guess what? Because of the ill way the cops searched my ride (pulled the cops hand out my pockets when he searched me while his partner was moving the car searching it)they must have figured out i wasnt some young punk that didnt know law. when i got up to the window the clerk said instantly "this ticket is no good you are free to go". I asked why and the clerk then said "this ticket dosent exist its not good you can go". so I started to walk out the court house like 2 pac when he got aquitted (a la George Jefferson). Im thinking there are two ticket books or that when an officer dosent want to face the court he purposly messes up the ticket. either way i got off and am not puttiing that loud tail exhaust on the new build. but it makes me wonder should i transfer all the id markings to the white car? will it even mater once they open the hood and see a 2jz in the bay lol?

Man oh man,

 

Well as I was taking the wheels off Betty to make Jessie a roller I noticed something. the black 88 underbody is in wayyyyyyyyyy better shape than the white 89. only the outter skin of the black car is dented to hell. but frame-wise its sound no flakes like the white one. sooooo being that its already a stick and i havent gotten too far in transforming the white car im gona do the project with the black car. this means pulling a perfectly working motor before anything lol.

 

BLACK BETTY WILL RISE AGAINNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!

so i pushed Betty out of the driveway and with the help of the wife (man the best counseling is having your wife help you with your car)we pulled it to the street with my newly aquired daily driver (92 nissan stanza crappyyyyy but runs). then pushed it backwards into the garage a really small garage lol.

As life would have it Financial aid money went to bills so its tax money on teck for the 2jz and the r154. In the mean time I got my hands on a service manual and im reading all I can. The car is in the garage nice and warm and I drained all fluids and disconnected wireing all thats left is mounts and diff but I wont do that till the engine is on the way.

 

Lad i forgot what gauge steel you used for the engine mounts, ive already cut out templates out of card board.

Well spring is in the air (kinda) and thank God for Tax Refunds. I am expecting the delivrery of my r154 this morning and I am excited. I recently found that I may need the 2j bell housing (an easy score from ebay for 350).

 

My worry is on the 2jz vvt that I bid on.though it says the engine is one simular to the one in the picture i worry. There is a picture of the bottom by the pan on the passenger side that looks like a crack im not sure if is or isnt but its worring the hell outta me being that today is the last day of the auction. Im assuming worse case ill have it welded up. There is also a crack on the mouth of the throttle body. I also figured i wouldnt be using that but unlike normal 2jz i see there is a sensor attachement on the side of the TB.

 

Im asking all the quest2j Gurus to forgive my hasty bid and tell me if these things are a concern.

Dude I hope you didn't bid on this, the throttle body is f'd up that oil pan is f'd up and yes above that the bottom part of that motor is cracked. Pls don't get this, why create even more work for your self.
