Sub box on back seat?

Recommended Posts

Will a sub box for three tens or 2 twelves fit on the back seat? My car is in the shop atm and i dont have any back seats in it. I am just wondering because i seen a box that was angled and golds 3 tens. That would interest me a little more than 2 twelves because i havent seen anyone with 3 tens.

Can i atleast get the width wall to wall of the back seat in inches?

well just to start u thinking what ohm are you going to be running 3 tens? dual or single coil? What amp and is it stable at that ohm?

Just a starter ...

im not asking for electrical answers i am wondering if the prefab boxes with lets say 3 12" subs will fight nicely in the back seat. I have my car stripped down to nothign but the dash and i was thinking about making a box flush up to the trunk so it would appear as if the trunk was extended closer to the back of the seat.

Wondering if anyone has tried that.

Also wondering if there are any experienced box makers on this site too.

I've been making boxes for 10 years now. I just made this, compact box for my big 12" sub, not finished yet though. I wanted it to hide under the stock hatch cover.

3 12's is gonna be a tight fit depending on the design.

well i have no back seats and no flap on the hatch. I took it all out for dynamat and was hoping to reduce some weight. I was trying to find out if three 12" Kicker CVR sub woofers in a sealed box would fit in the space provided between the wall at the back of the car were the back seats used to be pressed against and the front seat. Then i was wondering if it would be best for the subs to point upward. I hear that there is some sort of directional distortion that could be aim at your ear so you have to be careful.

I have had many systems and i have installed them with my own hands i am good with wiring but i do not know how to build ported boxes. I listen to rap and like big subs that are powered correctly so that they are punchy like they are supposed to be. I find that i get the best SQ from sealed applications, even though i like the hard hit of ported boxes. Any opinions?

Why dont i here about more people with ported boxes in the quest?

I think the key to showing a subs true colors is with a great amp. I think a large sub can be as punchy as a small one you just need the correct power to do it. Larger subs make larger sound at less strain meaning less distortion.

i like to listen to song like Lost by Gorilla Zoe, Geeked up by Young Jeezy, and if im not listening to that im listening to reggae and ska. THought this might help with suggesting the proper box for me.

single punch p3 12", this setup suprised the heck out of me. i went with one sub cause i didnt want to overkill the family sedan (2000 mazda 626 4dr) knotice there is still a lot of trunk space left. turned out to be one of the loudest systems i ever did.

you will be amazed how well a sub can sound when you build the box specific for the subwoofer.

That's an oxymoron if I have ever heard one. A full dynomat of the back would add more weight then striping the back seats, carpet and related.

It's not the best for weight savings, but you can get 2 12"s and a 15" in the back if you don't have a back seat. I'm sure you could probably reduce the space further by using subs that need limited airspace. My subs aren't anything special, so they required a lot of room...

Im pretty sure you'll have enough room to fit at least two 12" subs in there. I have one 10" sitting where my rear seat use to be with soooooooo much extra room back there. I know for a fact that youll be able to put in three 10" subs if you wanted to. One box will have to be custom made due to the hump from the drive shaft.

ill snap some pics of what my friend Amado made up for me, i paid for all materials and he put it all together.

edit: heres pics of my trunk area.

three 10's can definitely fit in there with a custom box for the third sub. or a custom box for all three.

Let me refraze that for the smart tail, caught me misspeaking. I stripped my entire car to nothing but the dash, and sparco racing seats hoping to get a good amount of weight reduction. Then i seen Burtons pimped out ride (and a few others), had a flash back to my Cadi on 20" three blades, and desided to dynamat the car. Not very extensive but most problem areas.

I am looking for a set-up that either has numerous small subs or one 2kw 18" sub and where to put them.

Thanks Dstar88 your friend is definetly talented. Thats the look i am going for. I am fully aware of cancellation and think the more subs might not mean louder but definetly more air pressure.

Why so many sealed boxes in the quest? Not a bad idea to assume everyone is a little older and isn't into the booming sound and likes to listen to actual music, not rap like myself. I understand the affect a sealed box has at making the sub moe accurate but if i could get a custom box to fit for a decent price i would otherwise sealed oxes on the small end are for me.

LOL... yep!! I knocked it out in an evening. When I had more trunk space and garage time, I loved to build bandpass boxes and experimental designs... usually didn't sound so great, haha. Plexiglas and neon lights were my favorite things to add. This box was just supposed to be simple and quick for the Starion, and fit under the hatch cover, ha.

lol!! yea we do!., ive been hella busy lately, so i havnt really had time to roll threw to your place and chill with you guys.

Keep it in the hatch, subs up, port back.

You'll lose the "3db hatchback" gain with subs in the backseat area and it'll sound like garbage.

actually mine didnt loose any sound at all. its sounds exactly the same as it did when i had the sub and box in the hatch.
