I think my alternator is failing and it's time to upgrade. The dashboard lights is dimming when I hit the brake to stop. And it won't hold a charge for 2 weeks, brought it to a store 5 months ago to have it check they said it's good. Any difference with 87 to 89 alternators? Should I replaced my Alternator with a GM type ? and if I do Do I need to to do any adjustment or re-configurations with anything that has to do with electrical or the computer? like this one from AutZone (Proform/100 A
how to tell if head is surface passed its limit??

Ok so I bought a used head from a member here. Its ported and polished and ss valves. I had it resurfaced and my machinist said he took off .020-.025 thousands. I think thats way to much almost a spark plug gap. And who knows if it been resurfaced before. So my question is how do I determine if this head is any good? Any measurements I can take?

Just wanted to introduce myself finally. I picked up my 89 conquest in late October as a project. And what a project lol. Found out the radiator didn't have water in it. once I put water in it found out the head gasket or something was junk. Tore motor apart and found cracked head. replaced head with a nonjet, arp studs and ajusa head gasket have been installed. Its been fun but frustrating as well. Found a lot of help from this site.
