  1. Anyone still around San Jose? Might stop by the old school meet this Thursday. My Starion may need to find a new home and I thought it may be a good place to start. Steve
  2. Does a Starion Dif work in the trucks? I have one from an '88 (~125000 miles) I need to get rid of. It will be on its way to the recycle bin here in the next week. Wish I could have made the meet, but I broke my foot instead. I would have brought that Airdam for Mario if I would have known. Steve
  3. The shipping on these things hurts, its like $60+ these days. I've got a new factory one in the box(unpainted, white gelcoat) down here in San Jose if you are interested for $300. Steve
  4. I still have a new factory 88-89 airdam in the garage. OEM Poly in white gelcoat primer ready for paint, not a knockoff fiberglass. $300 Steve San Jose
  5. I have a brand new factory Airdam sitting in its box in my garage. Its got the white gel coat on it and ready to paint. I got it from the Ebay guy a while back but also ended up coming across a slightly used one before I got around to getting it painted. $300 plus shipping Steve San Jose, CA
  6. How much are looking to spend? I'm starting to feel bad for mine just sitting in the driveway but between the STI and the bicycles, its just not getting much action these days and its beginning to look worse from all the sitting making me feel even guiltier. It's not a show car but a good driver. Its worst vise now is oil consumption and the toll of th sun on the repaint and the leather. I'd love to see what it would do with a good set of rings. My value on it is the sum of its parts which probably places it in the $4K range. '88 Red Starion with 10 year repaint that is starting to go Black Interior still in good shape but the leather is a little hard and the drivers seat has split open. Dynamatted doors and trunk, semi decent Stereo install Stedebani bushings, strut ties, camber plates H&R springs over Tokicos Relocated battery 3" turbo back Stainless Exhaust MAF Translator with 3.5in GM MAF hi torque Banshee cam with roller rocker setup in Marnal head, Matched ports, '83 valves Ported exhaust 14G Turbo MSD 6AL (currently unhooked) newer injectors (about 6 years ago) 110 Amp Alt Redid timing chains etc when head was done. All new steering hardware and rebuilt steering gear box, no slop. http://goldnblack.net/pics/albums/Starion/0611194.jpg http://goldnblack.net/pics/albums/Starion/0612012.jpg
  7. Is that Ron Hernandez that you sold it to? He kept letting his daughter wreck every nice Starquest he put together...
  8. I certainly wouldn't send them any money... There has got to be some local resources you can deal with face to face. Money back guarentees are worthless if you ask me. That's like a stamp saying, "yeah, we're going to rip you off and hope you can't jump through the hoops to get your money back. I'll see if I can get a hold of our real estate agent friend. Maybe I can get some advic e from him. Steve
  9. I have a chromed OVCP with the TurboXS mount. It necks down to fit the stock piping on the one end but I don't have any couplers with it. $120 shipped, Let me know. As shown on my car, There is a slight little rub spot on the end by the BOV and you can jsut make out the slight kink where the compound curve before the throttle body wasn't perfect. BUt I'm picky so I picked up another one. http://goldnblack.net/ForSale/OVCP07.jpg
  10. You'll have to find some one who doesn't know much about cars or is willing to look the other way and risk their job and/or business to get past the visual inspection. It may run better and cleaner but that doesn't mean jack to California. Even if the MPI looks stock, they will be looking for the secondary air system and the EGR valve that most don't try to fit on with the MPI.
  11. I think I have 1 of each for the drivers side in the garage. I'm in West San Jose near Saratga/Lawrence Epwy if you want to come take a look. Steve
  12. Was it a one time deal on the seats or is he willing to do more at that price? I'd love to get mine fixed and repadded even if it is with just pleather.
  13. A blip in this months(Feb 07) Grassroots motorsports states that "TEIN can now do custom, rebuildable struts based on OE housings. Options include single- and twin-tube setups as well as threaded bodies, adjustable damping and various upper mounts." No price estimates of course. Probably because if you need to ask you can't afford them....
  14. Another good way is to unfasten the top of the strut, disconnect the sway bar so the suspension arm will drop easily then get the strut top out form the wheel well. Once you remove that extra side loading it is much easier to get out.
  15. I don't suppose anyone has a 87-89 Tokico front strut cartridge lying around, new or somewhat used? Just need one to replace a blown right side and get my car back together. Apparently they stopped production a while ago and haven't bothered to have their catalogs updated at all these auto places. Steve
  16. Thanks guys. Hopefully everything works out well. Ekstatixx: Your just lucky I'm not allowed to bring home strays, (kinda how I got my current Starion) or I would have tried to sneak it out from under you... A little work and that will be a beauty.
  17. Outcast, I can hook you up with a 1G MAS setup. I've got two in my garage I was going to list soon. One setup is the complete recirculation setup with 1g BOV I had in my car, the other is just a spare MAS, hat and K&N filter. I'm over the hill in Campbell/San Jose around 85 and Saratoga ave. Steve A.
  18. I'm assuming they are both just steel. Given the prices I don't see one being made out of much better material than the other. HMonstarion: I ordered the addcos from Shox.com for $149 each shipped. (plus tax since they are in CA) I think 3sx came up with like $70 for shipping on top of thier higher price. Swaybars.com is Addcos direct site and they show $149 on thier site but I don't know if its extra for the shipping. On shox.com, you won't find our bars listed but you can email them and ask for a quote on ours (478U and 578U)
  19. I've got a set of addcos on the way. The fronts are both 1" but the rear addco bar is advertised as a 7/8 compared to 13/16. If they really are 1/16 inch bigger that is like a 34% increase in rear stiffness which should equate to increased over steer. I also chose the addcos because I kept hearing the STs didn't come with rear mounting hardware so I thought I would see if the addcos did. Steve
  20. Yes the Starions ECU reads the intake temp and the Barometric pressure which it combines with the vortex count to calc the amount of air mass coming in. The GM MAF computes the air mass flow itself and the translator I assume is what takes it back to the three seperate signals. Since it keeps the two other inputs fixed and varies just the vortex count then the result of the ECUs calc should always be as correct as the info coming from the GM MAF. What may happen perhaps is that under some conditions the ECU receives a vortex count that is out of the range it should be so it changes its calc maybe?
  21. I wish I could be seriously interested but I'd probably never be allowed to spend that much. Anyway, after I saw the mention of having to make a casting mold, I thought why would you bother with cast wheels anymore. So I did some browsing for billet wheels and came across this: http://www.wheelsforless.com/gtx01.htm http://www.billetspecialties.com/assets/500/gtx01.jpg I thought custom billet cut wheels would be expensive, which is why you were looking at cast but these seem like a good deal 17x8 - $315, 17x9.5 - 337.5 This looks like its already close to our stock look. Maybe they could mod this design a little to make it look even closer to ours. It sounds like they are all custom cut so I wouldn't think there would be a huge increase in price. And maybe with the bulk buy they would even lower the price. Steve
  22. You won't get a 245 on a 7" rim (or at least you shouldn't drive it with one on there)and if its an 8" front rim its been said that it will rub if the car is lowered. The 7" will fit a 225/50. Steve
  23. I hate to burst your bubble but as soon as someone with a camera gets one they'll probably post pictures anyway. I'd like to know what you are actually thinking/making. I know where I'd like to have my extra grounds, just been to lazy to get a crimper and some fittings. That's the only reason I'd be interested in buying one, Not because I thought you actually had some super secret knowledge.....
