serpentkilla
Ok so I went 1JZ for alot of personal reasons the main one being $$$. A few questions for our readers. What are you using for cooling fans? Did your front bumper fit back on after you crammed all that radiator and intercooler in there? Do you have a pic with bumper back on yet? Can you take a more detail pic of where you ran the harness and ecu location? :eek1bluegreen: And last but not least can you fly down to North Carolina and do my swap for a case of beer? :eek1bluegreen: *******This is the most important one of all so take your time before you answer..... As always thanks for the help, James Hey James the bumper is on in the pics i have listed. I took the ac out so the coil thats in the car is gone to. where the lines came out thru the firewall, i elongated the hole and ran harness there. if you look at the pic u can see it off to the left. The ecu i have behind the glove box. i had to cut the back side of the glove box out to do it this way. ecu pic http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN0995.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN0996.jpg Edited September 12, 2009 by serpentkilla

serpentkilla
Cleaned up the inside today, and i fixed my e brake it's only been like 2yrs. Took the measurements for the driveshaft today so i will try to drop it of on monday. so hopefully if all goes well i can take it out next weekend. http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN0986.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN0987.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN0992.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN0993.jpg http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN0994.jpg
autoxer
What is the difference between the 1JZ and 2JZ? Ok so heres the diff depending on year: 1JZ 8.5-1 compression 2jz 9.0-1 compression i think 1jz map sensor some 2jz mass air flow 1jz non interference engine( timing belt breaks @7000 rpm's no damage) 2jz interfence engine ( timing belt breaks @ 7000 rpm's get out your check book and cry) 1jz Parallel twin turbos ( both turbos spool together) 2jz sequential turbos (frt turbo spools first then second turbo spools and first turbo stops done to cut down on turbo lag) 1jz 280 hp 2jz 320 hp main difference is bore and stroke, blocks are the same and heads vary a little and like post above u can put the better 1jz head on a 2jz block and make better power. and price 1jz auto 1000 - 1300 2jz auto 1800-2300 1jz 5speed 1700-2000 and 2jz 5speed 2300-2800 2jz 6speed 5500-6500 there also seem to be more parts readily availible for the 1jz although many parts work on either Well thats about all I know about them at this time. Both are very good engines with very strong internals which allow big hp with little to no bottom end changes. Feel free to add to or change any info I have listed I am by no means an expert on these motors this is just what I have read online. Thanks, James PS Perez Thanks for the quick response and pics they helped alot but you never answered the last question.... Hope mine goes as easy as yours...thx James Edited September 13, 2009 by autoxer
JustPaus_88TSi
2jz interfence engine ( timing belt breaks @ 7000 rpm's get out your check book and cry) Higher compression 2JZGE VVTI motors are, yes. 2JZGTE's are not interference motors with the stock compression ratio unless you use the JUN(10mm lift), GSC S1 or HKS 280 cams, but HKS 264's and 272's are good to go unless you deck the block and plane the head. Go with a higher compression ratio piston, and this changes though. A kevlar belt and billet tensioner would be something to get if you built it into an interference motor. Yep your right I miss read sorry, It said 1jz's 1996 and newer vvt engines are interference due to a change in compression ratio 8.5:1 to 9.0 thanks for the additional info. Been reading up on these motors so much its all starting to blurr together. James
supturbo
you got a front sump 1jz right? I am running spal 16 inch on a griffin ( I had to have the welding shop do some customizing as the rad is not quite stock spec)- this big of a fan posses more fabing, but 3000 cfm is worth it. It pulls air through both intercooler and rad. I did have to cut some of the bottom spoiler to fit the intercooler 31x3x11. The bumper is the least of your problems really as it can be beaten to conform to almost anything - lol - I am still working out a few things on my swap, but they are I think fuel delivery issues as I am still trying to run the stock pump- I need driveshaft made and than put the dash back together with gauges. I cant wait to pull this thing out of the garage on its own power...Good luck - If you have questions I can maybe help. I know Highly Boosted was a great help to me-
AzStar
Did highly boosted every figure out the front sway bar issue? If there are enough of these *JZ swaps going on, could we get a custom bar made that would fit that application?

craig87
its not a matter of figuring it out you just have to drop it. But if you ever drive one of these with out a front bar you wouldn't know. This swap makes the car so much fun to drive.

To make the sway bar work yes you need to drop it down below the oil pan , I used to small pieces of angle to welded together to make up the difference , drilled two holes to match the sway bar bracket and mounted them

serpentkilla
I got the drive shaft on friday. put it in and took it out for a spin, well i was kinda dissapointed because the car felt no faster than my maxima http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif and one of the new fans i got from advance died. It was only making 8psi. Well i brought it back home and got on the internet. I found that my vsv that controls the flapper for the second turbo was dead. There is a mod to turn the 2jzgte turbo into a parallel setup like the 1jzgte. There is a lil lag but dammmn hold on whenit comes in. I did this on sat and when i felt that twin boost come on for the first time i almost cried i was so happy. Now i need to get a fuel cut controller, i tried the free one but the car kept cutting of when i took my foot of the gas. I also need to get a new clutch cuz this one aint worth shiet. I also have no reverse lol, i had to switch from an external shifter to an internal so i don't know if it was something i did or if it was messed up when i got. All the foward gears work fine just no reverse. Cleaned her up today. http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN0999.jpghttp://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN1000.jpghttp://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN1001.jpghttp://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN1002.jpghttp://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s285/pgoombay/DSCN1003.jpg

I remember it was less than a year ago I was trying to buy your mpi parts lo congrats man. It could have been quicker if i had the time. I sold the other motor in like march or april, and i was trying to sell things to come up with the rest of the money instead of coming out of pocket. I did enough of that with the last motor. I need to get a clutch though.

AzStar
its not a matter of figuring it out you just have to drop it. But if you ever drive one of these with out a front bar you wouldn't know. This swap makes the car so much fun to drive. I've thought about this some... perhaps too much. It would seem that when a bar is designed for a car, many things play into the correct ratio etc. The location of the frame mounts with respect to the lower A arms etc. all have an effect. I just have to believe that to just "drop it" would change the equation significantly. What the end result of that change is, who knows, but I don't think it would be the same as stock.
