88TSI_Rob
Some of you might remember that drift Starion that I found being built in China by TKR (Tak Kui Racing). That topic disappeared with the old forum, but I still have pics of it being built if you didn't see them or if you want to look at them again: Chinese Drift Starion Well, a couple months ago they completed the car and they took it to their first event. First they released a whole bunch more pictures of the build. Test fitting the trans and engine, note the Rack and Pinion setup http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3076/2580017633_a0de13243c.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3077/2580017795_d8c48832e6.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3036/2580017715_25e556bf83.jpg The one-piece front end http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3051/2580050431_70114af09f.jpg Building and installing the final engine http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3152/2580018831_96902813f2.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3033/2580018907_54bee2ae9d.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3012/2580018989_e9bc47b652.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3011/2580019049_006c5236da.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3155/2580847290_9e7f46f790.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3060/2580019231_8c0cfa9dd9.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3153/2580847970_16d693e855.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3181/2580019305_a28a041fb9.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3118/2580019371_1ec275e410.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3063/2580847614_df3b2a4449.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3169/2580847674_19499992eb.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3181/2580847890_849ef19fec.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3001/2580019907_d38a6a4057.jpg Suspension and brakes http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3265/2580017877_ef474479fe.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3273/2580846102_ca7e4ec1d0.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3276/2580018131_68c38b8d5c.jpg

Fanta
Oh wow, nice! I'm still tilting my head sideways at how that turbo is mounted. I can't recall EVER seeing that being done before. Also amused at how there's 3 white guys in China taking pics of a Starion

jd_stazza_brendan
That turbo setup is used on some rally cars. Ive heard the turbos dont last that long though, Something to do with the oil or bearings thats the problem. Could be a myth. Nicely presented car though. Technology
Not a fan of anything Chinese, but got to say that is a good looking race car. Racist. The only thing I like about that car is that it was once a starquest, and B. The wheels poke out pretty far.
Guest
Dumb question. What motor is that? I can't tell from the pics. Kinda looks like a Toyota engine.

Maxzillian
Only thing I don't like is that turbo setup. I'm not saying it doesn't work, but the oil fed into the turbo will pool on the exhaust side seal. I'm thinking it'll just constantly seep oil into the exhaust manifold whenever the car isn't spooling up the turbo. Trouble is that the oil can start coking up around the seal. Casey_L
This build looks sick. Is That a regular Starion transmission? One of the japanese ones for the 2.0 right?
Fanta
interesting radiator and IC mounting config... It's actually quite popular configuration to do - its called a V-mount
patra_is_here
i'm sorry, i think its cool they made a drift starion, but they need to work on their build quality http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3264/2580013243_5339d87879.jpg looks how the stainless hose is passing through the hole in the sheet metal without a grommet to protect it. it's little details like that that separate. a good build from a great build http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3022/2580841266_bbef2be95e.jpg lol, there's going to be no air flowing over this. and don't get me started on the v-mount IC and radiator set up, there's is so much room in front of that engine that there's no point to routing it that way. everything on this car just screams inefficiency. sorry. emagdnim
I dunno, the car being sideways all the time with air coming off the front wheel might be good enough. Also, the V-mount is going to keep it cooler once the car is sideways as well.

emagdnim
Yep, there has been a few drift event's in the rain actually... I've seen some on TV while doing it at night.
patra_is_here
I dunno, the car being sideways all the time with air coming off the front wheel might be good enough. Also, the V-mount is going to keep it cooler once the car is sideways as well. i meant the flow over the oil cooler is gonna be low because its blocked on the back by the fenderwell. at least thats how it looks. and the V mount has nothing to do with going sideways. an intercooler in front of ANYTHING with proper ducting is going to cool better, end of story. whatever air happens to make it through the little holes in the upper grill is going to jump around and go where even it pleases with out proper ducting and blockages, and if the radiator has less resistance to flow than the intercooler, than the cooling air is going to go over the radiator, while the IC will get what remains, AND, while the car is sitting still, the IC is just going to absorb the heat that rises from the radiator, and the IC is going to get some heat soak. V-mounts really should only be used when the confines of space dictate it's usage.
