StarBoy
I'd highly reccomend these guys to anyone that is looking for a really good stand alone for their cars. In my opinion this company sells a better product than Motec, Electromotive, Haltech, Autronic and SDS. I do not have one personally installed on my car. But the Formula SAE team I am on uses one, and we swear by it. Customer support is there all the way, prices are great (better than SDS) and they are easy to tune with a wideband. http://www.pe-ltd.com
eeaston
What FSAE team are you on? I'm on the Univ. of Utah team. That EMS looks like a nice product and the price is definately right, but I don't think I'd call it a better product than Motec. Motec ECU's just have so many extra features it's crazy. Launch control, traction control, boost control, programmable outputs that can control a transmission, etc. It's crazy. That said, I would never buy one myself unless it was the only product available that had the features I needed. I don't much like the company, they like to rip you off. Our FSAE team uses motec and they charged something like $500 for an additional 8 MB of datalogging memory! Now the kicker is that they don't even install additional hardware. They simply reprogram the processor to ALLOW you access to more of YOUR existing memory! Talk about a con act.
StarBoy
I hear rumors that the next version is supposed to data log and correct your maps for you, and do traction control, and have outputs for whatever else you'd want. I'm on the UTA FSAE team, new this year
artinist
hmm pretty interesting. especially for the price. too bad they dont have enough pictures on their site. i can't tell if it comes with coil packs or not. it does ignition also right? how does that work? 88TSI_Rob
Hmm, I thought the price was on par with SDS but it's been awhile since I've looked. I like the fact that it's actually a USA company. Almost ever aftermarket ECU available is from either Canada (SDS) or Austrailia. According to the user manual the ECU is able to fire up to 2 coils. You can either set it up with a coil/distributor or buy aftermarket coil packs (4-cyl. engines only) and have the ECU fire them.
StarBoy
It does not come with coil packs, its pretty well set up to work with just about any sensor that comes on the car from what I understand. I guess the price is just about on par with SDS after you buy the crank trigger wheel and the map sensor and coils. I am going to use this product on my daily driver when I go with my individual throttle body setup and a huge turbo (gt40).
eeaston
If you're going to use it to drive wasted spark, the Ford EDIS 4 coil pack is around $60 from ACCELL or MSD. It seems to be a good setup if you don't mind the odd-ball coil boots. Or look at GM's two-tower coil packs.
