New to the platform and to cars in general :/

I’ve recently inherited a 1988 Starion ESI-R that my grandfather owned in Hawaii but shipped to Seattle. Unfortunately, it’s been sitting in a field and hasn’t started since ‘02. Since then it’s been exposed to the elements, the neighbors kids have played in it, and I think theres a wasp hive in it as well. I look forward to restoring it but it’ll be a lot of work.

Modifications I know that are on it are: blown HKS or Garrett Turbo, HKS ECU, cold air intake, and a louder exhaust from what I know.

I’m planning on swapping it, but i’m deciding between a 2jz-GE (from an IS300 probably), and a 4g63B (from a Mitsubishi Outlander). Any suggestions?

good luck welcome to the family.jz are pretty exspensive now a days.i recommend a 4g63 out of an eclipse.but could always build the stock engine.dads engine parts has the parts and knowledge.starquestparts.net and mks motorsports can sort out all your needs as well.

Welcome

I chuckled a bit when you said you planned on restoring it, but then two paragraphs later say you plan on swapping it.   A bit of a contradiction there, perhaps restomod it is a better term to use?

My opinion; keep the original engine.  If you are dead set on swapping, at least keep it in the family.

Welcome!

My advice would be to get it running on the stock engine. Then clean it up and take care of all the maintenance it needs. Doing a swap is not for the faint of heart. It will take 4 times longer than you think and cost 3x as much, at least. Saying you are "new to cars" and then following it up with swap plans is likely to end up a disaster and/or never get finished.

Welcome to the Starquestclub show!!!

You need to have money to burn If you don't wrench on it yourself. Just get it running and enjoy as is!!

It's easy to fall in love but it will break your heart if maintenance isn't meticulously keeped up. Even owning one isn't for the faint of heart!
