Mitsubishi Triton Panther

Well I'm probably not the first to say that Mitsu's design/production/marketing has been severely lacking over the last several years. But I came across this while cruising the web.

Based off of the "sold in every country but the U.S" truck platform known as the Triton (alphanumeric designation L200), Mitsu spewed out this "actually not that bad looking" Panther edition of the model at the Brisbane and BIMS auto shows back in 2010.

Since the platform isn't sold here in the US...we get the less than impressive Raider truck...I thought I'd post it up here to show what Bishi is trying to do elsewhere. It's much better looking than the stock Triton, which looks more like Cinderella's coach than the international truck it has become (over 1.2 million sold).

Will it ever become a reality? Probably not...but it looks pretty cool. Even if they did produce it, we'd never see it here in the US.

We've had allsorts over here, Animal Edition, Raging Bull (redbull rip off) and Warrior wirh wheels 3x heavier than the factory rims. Over here Triton is usually designated to the V6 models of Shogun Sport aka Challenger and the V6 l200 but they always come in sludgepump auto wasting all that torque

Only way we will see it is in electric or hybrid mode. We don't get a lot of the good stuff in the states.

its mits version of a Subaru brat............

Nah the front of that look's like a older montero.

looks pooptastic IMO.....it can't decide if it wants to be a car, truck, or suv......so it decided to suck at all 3

I've herd of the "Triton" but that looks hideous.

I'm with Walker on this one. No wonder they don't bring it here.

To each their own I guess...but take a look at this (see next post)

You know how much fun it is to make a flat deck with the cab curved like that.

The Triton is in my view is the best of the bunch particularly with the 2.5 diesel engine (that 3.2 is chain drive and the 2.5 is a new version of the 4d56) the Ford/Mazda have a 5cylinder 3.2 diesel that is pretty sweet but the build of them is not as good.

The good old Hilux is still hanging in there with old tech.

I like it from the sides and the back, but the front of it just looks like the design team got tried and took a french curve and traced a line straight down ... lol. The headlights almost give it that "sad-puppy-dog" look. That said, it'd be nice to see Mitsu establish ANY sort of a market in the US again IMO - I don't care what vehicle they do it with.

Personally? I think the SUV-ification of pickup trucks is obnoxious as hell. That thing has what, a 4 foot bed? What the heck are you going to put in there?

Ground clearance doesn't look to be very good either - looks like it needs about a 6 inch lift to clear 33" tires.

I think it looks ugly too, even lifted. But I really don't care about that. What bothers me is that it's a completely useless pavement princess. I can do everything it does and get twice the gas mileage in almost any sedan

If you want a longer deck buy a single cab. It does annoy me that are no basic farm truck spec models anymore.

Your sedan must get good gas mileage, these are 180hp with a 2.5 diesel four can tow up to 3 tonne and use 8l per 100km.

There is still an option of the 4g64 as well (not here) which is a variation of the same old engine from the 80's (including Starions)

I was speaking about SUV's in general, and over here in the states we have very limited diesel options. Although I imagine a diesel would get better gas mileage in a car in any case. The point I was making is that buying a big truck to drive just you around town and do nothing else with is extremely inefficient. You could waste less gas, take up less space, and have a better ride in a car. At that point you're over-compensating for something.

Now If you've got, say, a couple surfboards and 2 kids that like to go to the beach or some similar sort of deal, I could see the point. But that's a pretty small percentage of people who buy trucks like this. Most of them are commuters who never even use the bed or the 4wd and rarely use the cab space.
