LSQuest88
Actually I'm running it somewhat that way for room so I didn't have to cut my firewall for my swap and to make the inlet/outlet come out in the right spot. It's not crazy v-mounted but it's definitely not straight up. Like I said not running for performance just clearance. Not the best pictures but these are all I have of it where you can see it. With the car back together now you can't see it to take pictures http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/ag290/406conquest/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0508_zps1zyad6vt.jpg http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/ag290/406conquest/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0499_zps5ebihlpp.jpg Edited June 15, 2014 by LSQuest88
speedyquest
That's not really a v mount setup.

Fuze
I have CX Racing v-mount, the stock setup is basically a v-mount with a pipe welded on. V-mount only means the ports are both on the top. As far as laying it in the engine bay like an RX-7, their radiators are leaned way back and there's a ton of room in front of those engines without the big fan shroud and clutch fan. http://distilleryimage3.ak.instagram.com/7d7225b2143511e3bf3222000a1fd299_7.jpgCan see the top connections belowhttp://distilleryimage7.ak.instagram.com/006227dc354311e3b39722000aeb4586_7.jpg Edited August 11, 2014 by Fuze
speedyquest
I'm sorry Fuze but "v-mount" has nothing to do with the location of the inlet and outlet ports on an intercooler. It refers to the orientation of the radiator in relation to the intercooler. Edited August 12, 2014 by speedyquest
Fuze
I'm sorry Fuze but "v-mount" has nothing to do with the location of the inlet and outlet ports on an intercooler. It refers to the orientation of the radiator in relation to the intercooler. V-Mount is the configuration of the ports on one side facing up or back instead of out to the sides, therefore resembling a "V". That's just how the intercoolers are designated, not to say that mounting them layed back isn't called that also but when you shop for an intercooler with both ports on one edge you search for V-mount. speedyquest
The reason that when you find those types of intercoolers and they are marketed that way is because those intercoolers work best for a v-mount setup. You can just think of them as being designed for a v-mount setup. Not that they themselves "are" the v-mount. And that "V" shape of the intercooler itself comes from the fact that the end tanks need to be set up that way for air flow. You can just think of them as being designed for a v-mount setup. Not that they themselves "are" the v-mount. And that "V" shape of the intercooler itself comes from the fact that the end tanks need to be set up that way for air flow. Years before the Vmount installation typical of JDM FC's and FD's gained popularity, the intercoolers were called V-mount due to the configuration of the tanks and ports. The pic below is a V-mount installation, but the intercooler has traditional end tanks and isn't really a Vmount intercooler. My point is that the name for that type of intercooler is V-mount regardless of what angle you mount it, the name doesn't change. http://club13b.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Blacky7.jpg
