Blakstar
Need some help with cooling fans. My 87 has 2 fans with do run to their full potential. The problem is the cars almost overheating. There's a 3 fan in front of the radiatior that runs veryyyy slow. I have no idea if it's supposed to???? I have replaced hoses and thermostat and still running 3/4 almost to the "H" on the dash gauge any ideas?
TexasQuest
The front fan is for the air conditioner when it's on. I would suspect the radiator needs cleaning and rodded out.

mistapickles
Sometimes the fans spin but they don't have enough torque to really move the amount of air needed to cool the radiator. Check to see if the fans are spinning hard first. They should be moving the air very briskly, like 60 mph wind, otherwise they aren't really cooling anything. Low torque fans can be anything from poor grounds, to a tired alternator, to tired fans. All three of those things are easy to check. As far as your radiator, it probably needs to be rodded but if you still have cooling issues after that it's going to be electrical

Blakstar
Update. Radiator clogged: old and leaking. Replace radiator with aftermarket from eBay. Bypassed lower coolant sensors. Then 3 days later car wouldn't turn on. I had to work all week so it's sitting at my mechanics were I visited him today. I got no blown fuses and I got lights working but when you try to crank no sound at all dead. Gauges don't reset not starter noise. And the worst part about it my wife is laughing at me...... Telling me that I should have bought the firebird my neighbor was selling for 2k.

john82wa
If it sat for three days and now nothing, you may need to check your grounds. There are a few places that need TLC in regard to the grounding. Same website that importwarrior directed you to but different write up. http://starquest.i-x...topic.php?t=916 ... just read that you mentioned the lights are working so this wont fix your problem, but a good idea to address either way Edited March 5, 2014 by john82wa
