Picked this up last week. Swear its the ugliest car ever made. Came with 15 Gallons of gas...that was 3 years oldhttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/00n0n_f7Eue6dGXrX_600x450_zpsd954def0.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/00B0B_kSFest5nr8x_600x450_zpsda2bf612.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/00W0W_96ItCVRVWqY_600x450_zps4ffacce1.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_133318_zpsb115a89e.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130837_zps565fd416.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130831_zps0e58e696.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130823_zpsaaff9de4.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130817_zps183795e7.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130812_zps88bd7ad7.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130803_zpsb8dfa4c8.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130742_zpsef5c7b92.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130733_zps89c4511d.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130728_zpsd864b09d.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130724_zpsf09193fe.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130656_zps9deddddf.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130642_zps93eb9f78.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130632_zps9df4bad4.jpghttp://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad348/warfare8000/1984%20technica/20131031_130617_zps55fa3668.jpg Edited by Warfare

I would guess 84. Manual heat and ac with technical package. Seems like an odd combo. That is the worst fuel pick up I have seen, and I have seen some nasty ones.

That's what I was thinking. And no it's not ugly!

Get her fixed up and have a blast with it!

Its not that ugly.... at least you have an LSD! Is this an 86? I'm curious about that digital dash, because I have an 85 with a different digital dash.

Its an 1984 conquest technica with posi rear end, not LSD. The Dash is a combo Analog + Digital (Digital boost, RPM, and MPH. Everything else is analog)which is as I understand the conquest version of the technica. The MPH only goes to 85mph and is not changeable. This car sat for about 3 years on the side of the road in a ditch as you can see in the pictures. The full digital dash was a starion technica. Until I saw this car in CL I didn't even know they made a conquest technica.

The flatty love will claim you eventually, it always does. :-)

I'll never love this cars looks, however my brother had an 85.5 technica that was one of the best handling cars I've ever driven. This cars 145hp isn't going to be enough so the engines been slated to receive an 86's 189hp IC powerplant. Lotus correct?

I filled the tank up with water and drained 2.5 gallons. Poured 2 gallons of muriatic acid in it and let it sit for 7 hours. I spent 8 hours the next day rinsing the tank out and it was still dropping rust out the drain. Pumped rust remover through the fuel lines and return lines and they were actually ok. So hope next week I can try cleaning it out again and try getting it to start.

That's a great car, needs some cool wheels and a drop!

Trying to decide on whether to D2 drop and keep the stock rims and go with low pro for better grip or see if I can convert it to 5 lug and do 7's of 7 & 8's all around. Don't think 8's would look appropriate on the back. Worried altering the suspension could affect the great handling they came with. But I don't know much about flatties.

Getting a passenger window and get it running and pass emissions is my first priority. Then I can start on the rust removal and pull the block to replace it with an 86's. The paint requested by my brother whom I got this for is an almost black midnight blue. I'm in the market, as it were, for parts. It needs a header panel, air dam, drivers side mirror, wiper garnish vents, passenger side brake light lens, front and rear bumpers, passenger window, rear speaker decks, radio bezel, center console, the passenger side front fender has a bit of rust in it that I don't think will be salvageable. And a whole lot more. So if anybody has any flatty parts or can point me to where I can find parts let me know. Thanks Edited by Warfare

First off, posi is a form of LSD or Limited Slip Differential. Posi or Positraction is Chevrolet's trade name for a limited slip differential.

Second, the block and head have nothing to do with HP ratings of various years. It's all in the IC, fuel system and boost level. Changing the block wont give you more power. Adding an IC will.

Before considering D2s and other suspension stuff get some swaybars. ST swaybars are the best bang for the buck in suspension mods. If you do decide to get D2s then weld them to flatty struts. Flatty front control arms are 1" shorter. That changes the spindle/strut angle. If you use widebody struts you may end up with positive camber.

Like UCW said the blocks are all the same, for more power you should add an intercooler then go 2.5" exhaust with a new cat if you have to pass emissions. From there you can upgrade the turbo and up the boost as long as you keep an eye on the air fuel ratio. These mods will get you past the stock 86s horse power.

The D2s will be the best upgrade you can do besides better wheels and tires in regards to your suspension and handling.

As for the wheels I suggest stepping up to 15s or 17s as 16s dont have as many good tires choices.

That'd save a lot work. I thought there was a difference in the feb/march 1987 cylinder heads was the reason for the increase. The block in my other car is getting pulled any way for it own conversion, Still will prolly pull this engine when I paint I do want to do the bay. Will the later ECM plug right in? It doesn't have the warning labels in the drivers door like my other 87's do about the LSD so I thought it wasn't a standard.

83-86 FI uses 2 same size injectors and has a map sensor. They are limited on how much boost they can take before fuel cut. You can use a fuel cut defenser to raise that somewhat but are still limited.

87-89 uses staged injectors, 2 different sizes. No map sensor. They will take a little more boost before hitting their limit. The 88-89 ecu is considered the best unit. But you will need an 87-89 wiring harness to run it.

Either way you go if you are going to push far past stock boost levels you need a wideband and a perfect running engine first. You can safely push to 14 psi before needing a wideband. Stock boost levels, 83-87 7 psi, 88-89 10 psi.

If it doesn't have the LSD sticker you may have an open diff. I would suggest manually checking it by jacking up the rear and trying to turn the rear tires with the trans in gear. If you can't you have LSD. If you can then it's an open diff.

If it's an open diff don't worry. Any 86-87 4 bolt LSD diff will swap right in.

Also the 84 trans is weaker than the later models. An 86-87 intercooled trans is stronger. The 88-89 is stronger still. But pay attention to the slave cyl push rod. It is different lengths between non IC and IC cars. Swapping them will make the clutch not work properly.
