Hey everyone, I apologize if this is the wrong section to post this in but here it goes.

 

I recently bought a 04 infiniti g35x from a ford dealership it was on consignment, it looks like they changed the oil but it seems half a quort low!

 

Im going to st. cloud tomomorw bout 200 miles round trip but my concern is I dont know what type of oil they used (conventional or Synthectic) I want to top it off but I know if you dont mix them correctly it can create a barrier around areas so it wont lubercate properly. And the person who changed the oil isnt in till monday. So im kinda not sure what todo.

 

Aside from changing the oil myself what could/should I do? any help is appreciated!

5/30 but even 10/30 one quart would be OK

 

Are you checking the oil level cold or with the engine warm? is the car on level (flat) surface?

 

I think what you don't want is an oil additive, any type of oil is alright but most new cars only use synthetic.

 

The oil on the dipstick is clean looking though not dark brown or black correct?

Infiniti's use Ester Oil, you can get it at an Infinity dealership

IV checked the oil when the car was cold and hot its saying about the same thing level ground aswell. When I went to my local parts store they said 5w30 conventional was reccomended, I just wasnt sure what the ford dealership deiceded to use.But a half a quart of 5w30 conventional would be ok? If it is infact synthetic?

 

What if I used a Syn Blend?

mobil 1 has ester in it but isn't considered an ester oil....when I took my car to the dealership they said it isn't the same....

Your right because it doesn't cost 11.95 a quart.

Since Mobile 1 is endorsing there own product in this particular application it would be safe to say forgetaboutit.

 

Motul is the company authorized to manufacture Nissan brand motor oil

I wanna say thanks to everyone that posted there input. Everything went great! And the dealer said they would change my oil free because they gave me a dented oil filter :mad: . I used 5w30 conventional went threw a hour of gridlock and a few hours of driving with no folleys so all good so far! :lol:

this is the oil that'll keep your car happy. Like Lou said, Nissan's consume oil and you'll need to check the oil "if" you don't use ester oil. So stop taking your car to a Ford dealership and get the right oil for your car, you'll be way happier.

 

Esters provide better lubrication because they are "magnetically" attracted to each other (molecules) and to the metalic surfaces in the engine.

 

Motul has some great info about esters

Essentially what the article says is that normal oil will only protect metal to metal contact while the engine is running. Ester oil, because of it's attraction to the metal surface, will continue to create a film on the metalic surfaces even when the engine is not running.

 

So in addition to it's ability to be "custom tailored" it prevents excessive start-up wear (this is usually where most of the engine wear comes into play).

 

I have a G37S and you will void your warranty if you don't use this oil.

That banana oil is pretty special stuff I think McDonald's uses some of it in their french fries.

I think I leave it up to you and the french what oil to use

 

Some say it is because Nissan uses plasma coated internal engine components that they need this type of oil.

I know that diesel engines use the higest spec oil because the internal pressures are several times that of conventional engines and the engine oil needs to stand up to that abuse.

Ester oils are part of the makeup of most leading synthetic motor oils and are custom tailored and not 100% ester oil.

 

If you use a motor oil with the the same or higher API rating as what is recommended in your owners manual by Nissan

there is no way they can void your warranty..

 

I personally think Nissan puts something in their oil and

it affects the thought process to make you believe it is something special.

I say just put the amsoil in it and call it a day. You know it's got to be good with there garontee. And even there gear lube is WAY cheaper then the synthetics at the store like royal purple ect.

 

I luck out and got a dealer down the street, but I do know some people have trouble getting it. That is why this guy became a dealer of it. Everything I have run it in LOVES it.

During the summer, frogs and toads can be found in ponds, streams, and ditches. They are very active and conspicuous during these warm months but are absent during the winter. Amphibians, including frogs, are cold-blooded creatures.

All this for a 1/2 quart low on oil? I think Toadie has changed his name.

 

Next time, pour a 1/2 quart of any reputable oil, anything close to manufacturer's recommended viscosity and never give it a second thought.

 

It's not a Veyron or an Enzo.....it's a Nissan.

 

1. put oil in engine......

 

2. drive
