Big John
i found out that the first drum in the tranny is the od drum the second is the direct drive drum (the one i need) and the third is the low gear drum. funny thing is the parts distributor say that the drum is not available and these tranny's were also used in mazdas. scott87star
Y'all can have them surfaced at the machine shop, it's not like they are shot just because they are grooved.
MikeMeyerhoff
Unfortunately the drums are not wholly uniform accross the different car models. I wish I had the space to buy some of the different variants and play around with them partswise. The are differences based off of how it was made to be packed and the different shafts. The stoutest version of the L4n71b was actually in the 300zx.
Big John
if i have the drum resurfaced will it affect the shifting of the tranny? i can have it done just don't want to spend the money and it not work. thanks john
MikeMeyerhoff
Shouldn't. You account for the difference in diameters when you adjust the band.

JAinsworth
John, I have a supposedly rebuilt auto tranny here but the center shaft is broken. The internals should be good. LMK if you want it to try to use the parts out of it.Jimmy
The Rabbit1
never heard of a resurfaced drum, I'd just replace it, as thinning it could just cause it to crack, these drums are already not the most reliable and if it cracks it could wipe the rest of the trans out..
