Gamble88
Where can you buy these from? Thinking if I keep this car I'm going to do an OEM rebuild with better pistons, and a magna head. Something that can handle say 500hp. ISH
Technology
There are like three different versions, one of which has the biggest ports or flows the best or something. You may have to ask an Australian person.

Technology
Yep. I did it. stock (shotpeened) rods, and a marnel (stock replacement) head made 450, so magna should make 500. It's simple math.
Gamble88
OEM rebuild with better pistons will give you 500hp? I didn't say it would GIVE me anything. I said something that can handle 500ish. Back on topic please.
superscan811
There are like three different versions, one of which has the biggest ports or flows the best or something. You may have to ask an Australian person. The M6 or M7 magna head are the ones you want, they have the largest and best flowing ports of all the standard heads. The M6 or M7 is cast into the head in 3 places. The inlet sidehttp://users.tpg.com.au/ntome44/SG/Head/STD-M7-INLET.jpg The exhausthttp://users.tpg.com.au/ntome44/SG/Head/STD-M7-EXHAUST.jpg and also under the cam (don't have a picture of that.). The 2 thing I'd do before using them (unless you are getting a lot of head work done) is to just clean up the casting marks in the ports and blend the chamber a bit to remove any sharp edges. I went a bit overboard but you get the idea. BEFOREhttp://users.tpg.com.au/blackmas/SG/Head/chamber-00.jpg AFTERhttp://users.tpg.com.au/blackmas/SG/Head/chamber-01.jpg The heads are cheap here in Australia BUT the shipping cost to the US is damn expensive. Airmail starts at $350. Cheers.

superscan811
How much is a head? They are around $150 - $200 at a "U-PULL-IT" style wreckers. It usually takes around 1.5 hours to remove the head because the Magna's are front wheel drive and there are 2 socket headed cap screws are a real B1TCH to remove with the engine still in the car. Gamble88
Oversized would be nice, but not sure how much of a gain it's really worth. Plus I'm doing it on a budget.
Technology
you don't need OS valves for 500hp.
Mike_StarionTSI
yeah, Im on a budget as well lol. Thats why Im going for the m28 head from Dad. its 295 shipped. And Ill just swap over my stock parts to it and eventually go port and polish and OS valves too. But for now, at least its a NJV head.
Gamble88
you don't need OS valves for 500hp. The motor i'm getting won't be able to do 500, so I'll keep it conservative. and see what I can get out of the TBI. Goal is 300-350 to the wheels. That would still make for a fun street car and on a budget.

D_Venable
I have a new Magna casting, China one I believe, as it's marked M28. I got it from 101propose ,aka mookeeh, a couple years ago when he was still active on the site here. I don't know which version Magna head it's based off though, but the shape of the runners inside does differ than a Marnel, Tech and I compared this to his Marnel one of the times he had his head off. http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P9140346.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P9140347.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P9140349.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P9140351.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P9140348.jpg
TainterRacing
Thats not the same as a magna head..... None of them have any jet valve passeages on them. The rest of it might be the same.
