my new manifold has an external wastegate flange. so im good there. it looks like the HE351 has a solinoid so i don think that is what i have. this should do alot better than my tdo5h16G with my mpi........ Edited by wrngwae

i just drilled and put a external wastegate on my manifold. works great.

to make sure i had support there, i actually drilled and tapped the manifold in 4 places where that plate is sitting, then welded the plate to the studs as well as to the manifold. I wasnt sure about welding the stainless to the cast. I also added some gussets where the pipe comes off of the manifold for support, i had it break before i added the support, no issues now. works great!

i hope to have mine wrapped up and back on the road this weekend , i just finished my downpipe so i need to wrap it, and a few odds and ins then ill see how much boost i can push with factory injectors, i may upgrade them for awile dont want to get to deep with the tbi , as ive got a multi in the making hope to have it next month or so :) so if anyone is looking for a full 52mm tbi setup it may be up for sale soon

Just hope that smaller turbine housing doesnt choke it out at higher RPM. mine is a 12cm^2 its just about perfect, i know they have a 9cm^2 but i believe it would be to small

19C when are you hitting full spool? With the .70 A/R housing on mine (aprox 10cm^2) I'm at 20psi about 3600RPM. When I tried the 12cm^2 housing it was well over 4k before full boost. This was on the old engine but either way. Curious :) Edited by psu_Crash

well the one i got was an he341. it has a 4" exhaust out. now im going to have to reduce that to 3". that might not be to easy to do in such a small area..while making the bend down. or i could use the 4" bend that came with it and weld my bungs into that? Idk what im going to do yet. Edited by wrngwae

have you ever tried to use some light sand paper on it on the inside.it should show if your dead set on knowing. but if its a stock turbo you can tell buy that link.

I hit full boost pretty quick, i can have 10 psi at like 3000, ill look at a log and let you know!

i just purchased an HY35..... it is in a brown van heading to me now lol... any input on the HY? i have read it spool quicker and not run out on top either. it is a t3 flange not divided. also i think it is oil only. comes with the band clamp and some pipe for the PO. i will have to see if they did any oil restriction or not. this is also a oem stock turbo. not a fleabay special. so it should last a good long while.

I thought I would chime in on this one. I am running the HY35 from a 2002 cummings engine. This was the one with the smaller hotside. I first installed this in 2006 when I was TBI. I was impressed with the turbo. I did build a header for it though, so I don't know how the stock manifold with an adapter plate will be. I was able to hit 15psi by 3200rpms with a few mods like a bigger exhaust. The HY35 is just getting into it's efficiency' range at 14psi. The turbos I have read will push out 30-35psi. 30psi though is on the limits of it's efficiency range. When I changed over to MPI, I was still using the stock ignition with a recurved distrib'. I was spooling about the same at the TBI setup. Later I added a large IC and it spooled a little slower, but now much. Then I added the EDIS system and ditched the stock ignition. At this point it spooled terrible. 15psi was around 4500rpms. This took some time to fix though ignition map tunning. Once I got my maps tuned I was seeing 15 psi at 2800-2900 rpms and 20 psi by 3200 rpms. The turbo spool is insanely fast once it's in it's efficiency range. I have had the car down since 2007 and it's not almost ready to be put back on the road. The goal is 25-30psi by the end of summer. It's a fun turbo to have on the car, traction is a problem in 1, 2 and 3rd gear though.

I will saw I have not been the easiest on the turbo either. I have launch control setup on the car and I do anti-lag when launching and I can leave the line at 5psi. This is hard on turbos because you are firing the combustion change partial in the header to spool the turbo.

I have rebuild the turbo 2 times in about 6,000 hard miles. This is not because of abuse, but an oiling issue. I did not run a restrictor on the oil feed line until after the second rebuild, so the seals blew out again. I made a simple restrictor with an inset that fit into my AN adapter that had a 1/8 hole.

So all in all, I love the turbo. I went with the HY vs the HX because of all my research, I didn't think the HX would spool like I wanted to. Here's my original post.

^^^^ Thank you! unfortunatly i actually got the he341 and im trying to think about what to do with the 4" exhaust that coues out of it ......it should still have the same internals though. and i have a SS log manifold im using too. lol

Hmm ... maybe my timing needs a little tweak. But at 3600 RPM I can be at 20 or 25+ That's right about the point where it just buries the needle if I let it :)

I'm actually working on my car now. I have the MSQ file loaded that you sent me with tweaks for me application. I actually now just loaded my old ign map. My old ign map wasn't as aggressive on the advance. I had a map before with crazy advance and I couldn't get it to spool. Maybe bring back the timing in the boost a few degrees.

http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff474/JASONCROFFORD/014.jpghttp://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff474/JASONCROFFORD/016.jpg So i finally got everything back together, and looks really good , just working out a few bugs and trying to tune this monster , its been tricky was running way rich in boost and i finally got it to lean out and now im putting fuel back in , had to order another set of plugs as mine are kinda fouled because of the rich cond i was having so when i was building some decent boost she backed fired on me a few times, and ive had to adjust my bov, it may had a little to do with it, but over all very happy just going to take awile to get everything in sinc

looking real good.... i too am close to mounting this HE341 on. made me a homemade oil restrictor and got everything on nice and tight. but im going to have to figure out the inner-cooler piping since the HE341 output had a different angle than my pipes.... yet another hurdle lol.

yes i hear u man , i had to overcome more hurdles than i originally planned , and more to overcome im sure, but overall it came together well a little trial and error to get everything to fit and work properly, i had to modifie my pipes a little to

so the tbi guys what are u using to tune these with and injectors/boost levels u at , ive been trying to get it tuned with just maf-t and stock injectors and itd been really difficult to tune out the rich and lean conditions compared to the 16g that was on here mainly in the full throttle area i can hammer down at first it wants to go pig rich then when boost does build its pretty explosive then starts to reach lean pretty quik so ive been taking it real slow to keep plenty of fuel in it under full boost , and i may be fighting a few other issues also thinking the bov is leaking at 12psi or more , or maybe the wastegate not sure yet but feels like a boost leak when im getting to those levels
