4 pot brake upgrade

Recommended Posts

Yep the crown vic rotors will fit (we never got them in NZ but i managed to find some hidden on a dusty shelf in a parts store here). Was gonna have a go later designing a new bracket to fit some bigger rotors but just gotta get the car up and running before the wee one arrives!

I don't believe the Crown Vic rotors are quite 13", but I do have a pair of 13" Cobra rotors [still attached to the car even  ] I can measure out for you guys.

Yeah i think they were 12.5" iirc. Was awhile ago i looked at them. Still bigger than the standard ones anyway!

The offset on the Cobra 13" rotors is all wrong. The crown vic rotors from around 2000ish are almost perfect.

Mine was put together with a really crappy bracket that I don't trust to try and drive on. I really need to get a good template made and have some cut for me.

I've not tried to put a stock wheel on with these bolted up. And they are no longer on the car, but I do still have all the parts. I may try and get this done soon.

Hey guys, I've been compiling info on brakes and here is what I have so far.

https://docs.google....UExhLVFyOEg1Rmc <<< Feel free expand to this spread sheet with any info you have. It is open to public editing. There are multiple sheets on that file, so be sure to check everything out!

A lot of the info I got came from http://www.dba.com.au

***Anybody have the EXACT measurements of the 5 lug Starion rotors? I only took down approximations.

It looks like Mazda FC turbo rotors are a very close match. If you can find larger, aftermarket rotors for the RX7, you should be able to build your brake system around it.

Also, you MUST use a rotor that has a center hole greater than or equal to the wheel center bore diameter. Otherwise, machining of the rotor/hub will be required.

I can take some measurements and see what I can come up with. A friend of mine just got a CNC machine and will hook me up on parts production (might get even cheaper if I design it in Solidworks or AutoCAD and source material myself), I've been itching for a reason to make something.

I'd like to say yes, but sadly I've had no time due to work to even think about drawing up brackets. I haven't even taken a wheel off the Conquest to get disc measurements. Brackets are on my short list of things to do this summer though.

I was pricing out Wilwood DynaLite 4-pots and two-piece rotors/hats earlier though, and it looks like [at least for what I want for my Shelby] I could build a setup with all new components and custom brackets for under $1200. I'd imagine I can have brackets made for under $100 apiece, but that number is far from solid or concrete, I'd still have to take it up with the machinist and add his numbers to the material cost [which I'd prefer to source myself].

I'll keep everyone updated with anything I find. Unfortunately time isn't one thing I have a lot of on my hands, and my Conquest is my DD so it can't be down for more than a few hours at a time.

Found these last night.Anybody running them?

I remember when these were selling at $800! I think D_Venable has this set, but I don't know if he installed it yet. I think for close to $1000, I can build a 3000gt front brake setup on my flatty with a little cash left over to help cover some 17" wheels.

I have the 13" kit, that's the 12". The 12" will fit behind the stock wheels, the 13" won't.

Once I get my Durban to Minnesota The 13" kit I have will be going on the car. The only thing that is left to be desired, is the quality of the brake lines they supply. I'll probably get some new DOT braided lines. I was told by a trustworthy source that the lines that came with my kit are not DOT rated, something to do with the ends of the lines.

Pics are on a set of strut casings that I, at that time, had not finished welding back together after shortening for MR2 inserts.

That is a damn fine setup. Do those Superlites use the 7112 pad? I'm wondering what rotor that uses, I almost want to say those are Cobra units, but the center doesn't look right. Edited by Dave-O
