ucw458
What have I been up to these past few months, well……. I had lots of time on my hands but $ was tight so rebuilding my 87 took longer than expected. So I did a lot more beautification than originally planned. After all the hard work Id say it was worth it. I used almost all the shiny zinc bolts from my 2 parts cars to pull it off. I even had to buy new hardware to finish it. Many cans of paint, a lot of sandblasting and cleaning and this is what you get. Some misic to listen to while you scroll through all the pictures. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQTu9vx-laY This is what I started out with. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/enginebayassembled.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/PIC_1022.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/PIC_1024.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/PIC_1025.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/PIC_1023.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/PIC_1021.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03414.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/PIC_0498.jpg Edited July 11, 2010 by ucw458

ucw458
Engine assembled. Countless hours spent on shiny fasteners and detailing. Almost everything was cleaned, masked, sandblasted, unmasked and cleaned again then re-masked and painted. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03430.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03433.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03434.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03436.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03439.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03441.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03457.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03461.jpg If you install the throttle shaft upside down, mechanically it still works the same but the TPS wires are on the bottom and the TPS looks better. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03459.jpg
ucw458
New radiator having fans mounted to it. This radiator was a PITA to get in but it’s bigger and cools better. Plus it’s shiny and performance looking. I know the sensors don’t look the same but that’s 2 low temp sensors. The fans are wired together at the fan relays. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03531.jpg Mmmmm coilovers http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03469.jpg KITTY,……….. is not amused http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03423.jpg
ucw458
Engine going in. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03473.jpg Almost done, just hooking everything up. I’m using the stock precat and mani just to get it smogged. Starting to look beautiful now. Btw that hood prop isn’t painted black it’s now rubber coated for scratch resistance. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03475.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03481.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03478.jpg
ucw458
All done. Car is smogged and registered with only 38 miles on the new engine. Innovative wideband installed and the ECU is getting the O2 signal from the Innovative controller. Now it’s time to have some fun with it. The end result of all my hard work. Shiny and beautiful. I love it. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03544.jpghttp://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq352/ucw458/Resto/DSC03548.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQTu9vx-laY

ucw458
Yeah I wanted a natural look so the cast aluminum is painted cast aluminum and the cast iron is painted cast iron,..... you get the point.
Komeuppance
It's good stuff man... looks great. I've done it to a many parts as well. I used to use duplicolor a lot, but I'm switching over to plasti-kote. Their high temp stuff coats and lasts much better than duplicolor's. -Robert

UlrichWolf
Well, all right, man! Glad to see it going! I remember doing nearly this back in October 2006 with my car. I really tried to make it all nice and perfect, and it looked pretty good when it went in, then I never bothered to clean the engine after that. It REALLY looks au natural again. Oh, and as far as the paints go, on all my aluminum stuff, I used Eastwood's Silver Cad spray. Looked really sharp! Maybe I'll get my engine cleaned. ucw458
Thanks for all the praise. It feels good after a long project. I used a high temp ceramic paint for all of it. I know it's not gonna gonna last forever but at least for now it looks good.
