Frenchi934
I actually prefer the step, But i did think about doing the bass mouth mod...but I really cant afford the intercooler set up to fill the bigger hole right now anyways
ScooterDude92
i like the step also, but i have a spare bumper that im working on shaving just to see how it looks in person, whats the bass mouth mod?
Frenchi934
When you notch the bottom of the front bumper to create a larger intercooler opening. Look at the front of the convette for illustration haha
Komeuppance
I still laugh at Earl's name for enlarging the intercooler opening. -Robert
BIGbCraig
Very nice lookin bumper repair! Frenchi934
Since last update:I rebuilt a tail light. If you're wondering how to do this first you pop these tabs. http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/4655/sdc11123.jpg Then using a heat gun or blow dryer you heat up the perimeter if the clear outer piece and pry the lens apart starting here: http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/5750/sdc11124p.jpg After its apart its pretty straight forward. http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/263/sdc11125v.jpg http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/4461/sdc11127s.jpg Clean the lens, remove the old sealant, and repaint the rusty bits... http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/5395/sdc11129f.jpg Then re-assemble. I used this sealant and also sealed the bulbs from the back with it (suspected cause of original rust). I used it on my home made door panel seals too. http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/9019/sdc11134.jpg Good as new: except the cracks.... http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/5237/sdc11135p.jpg Primered the air dam and the headlight covers. http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/2623/sdc11131.jpg http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/8694/sdc11133q.jpg And got the header panel ready for dent repair: http://img547.imageshack.us/img547/2317/sdc11132d.jpg I also wanted to tint my fogs, so I went ahead and did it. http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/1209/sdc11130.jpg Edited December 29, 2010 by Frenchi934

Frenchi934
Big day. I woke up early, primered the header panel, and then sealed up everything. http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/8448/sdc11138.jpg My dad made me this hook I can use to keep the panels from rocking from the air pressure: http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/2037/sdc11139e.jpg I also repainted (entirely) both bumpers and the splash panel and added support to the header panel. http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/6199/sdc11140p.jpg http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/4382/sdc11143m.jpg Yes the back side of the header panel has runs, no I dont care haha.. Got to wet sand the sealer tomorrow with 600 grit just to scuff the surface. Should be able to paint saturday (fingers crossed) Edited December 31, 2010 by Frenchi934
Komeuppance
Haha... what's your header panel support, the runs or that piece of tape?? -Robert
Convette
lol I think the tape is structural...lol Looks good man.
Frenchi934
bahaha. That isnt tape its a stick on fiberglass board. Although..with primer on it it looks just like duct tape...I put one on each side right in the middle of the span between the supports and it actually stiffened it up quite a bit. I guess you'll have to take my word for it. Edited December 31, 2010 by Frenchi934

Frenchi934
I painted my last blue today. Very excited to move onto final assembly. All i have to do now is paint the grille, the headlight bezzels and foglight trim black, restore a couple brackets for bumper covers and assemble. Should be less than a week left on this thing. QuestFan
Wow frenchi, I am very impressed. I just read through this whole thread all the way from day 1. I am glad there is someone in this world that will take the time to do things right. Your car definatly has show car quality work. Keep up the exceptional work. I love the color you chose and I am doing a similar color on my 71 El Camino. I look forward to seeinig your car in person. After I finish up my MPI conversion I want to take some road trips. Your house will be on my list of places to visit if that's ok with you.
