D_Venable
Thanks Mazarin sold the snow tires, so I bought a DA air sander, I wish I would have bought one sooner http://26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5140377.jpg then I continued to strip...the fender, then primed, and put a coat of paint on it, I'll have to redo the rear bottom corner to patch the holes where the alarm thingy use to be. http://26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5140378.jpghttp://26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5140379.jpghttp://26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5140380.jpghttp://26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5140381.jpg

D_Venable
the plan for winter tires is get some 195/60r15's for the cowbells, OR find a set of the 6-spoke 280Z wheels (14x6) for winter use with 185/70r14's here's a pic of the 280z wheels I speak of http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3397/3614711081_6f18c5a651.jpg with the spacers, the smaller hub bore of 66.1 on the 280z vs our 67.1 wont be a big issue Edited May 15, 2010 by D_Venable
D_Venable
WOOHOO!!! tv in the garage now, lol http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5150393.jpg Spent most of the day out at a local forum (mitsustyle) dyno day, but still worked on the car today before I left, trimmed the airdam some more, and cut one of my u-bends in half to start the pipes that come in and out of the intercooler. Then I stopped and got a piece of acrylic sheet on my way home, and started making an air diverter for the roof rack. my initial plans are to paint the back of it black (after I make mounts for it) but I'm contemplating keeping it clear and plaster it with stickers (was planning on plastering it with sticker anyway) http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5150382.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5150383.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5150384.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5150385.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5150386.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5150387.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5150388.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5150389.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5150390.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5150392.jpg
Killtodie
I think it will look good clear, maybe even that frosted look. acrylic likes to get scratched very easily. that airdam, is that it's final placement? Or are you putting in more work to it, I see uneven gaps
D_Venable
it's just kind hanging there atm, it's not final, I'm gonna have to rig up some brackets on the sides, and support the bottom of the bumper skin a little to keep it from sagging in the middle (which it's doing now)
D_Venable
did some "testing" of how I might arrange the rear hatch area (the amp I got in exchange for use of my welder ) http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160396.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160398.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160399.jpg Then I got the center mount for the roof rack air diverter made http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160400.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160401.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160402.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160403.jpg
D_Venable
got the DA saner back out, stripped some more sharpie off the car (the last of it too, WOOHOO!) http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160404.jpg I then pulled the antenna motor out, and patched the hole in the body, got a skim coat of bondo drying on it now http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160405.jpg Took a couple tries to get a good ground, this is were I ended uphttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160406.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160407.jpg then rolled it out for some more outside shots, yeah, I like taking pics of the car, lol http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160408.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160409.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160410.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160411.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160412.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160413.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160414.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160415.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160416.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160417.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160418.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160419.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5160420.jpg

89PalermoSHP
is that front license plate location legal?
D_Venable
is that front license plate location legal? I'll find out. here's the quote from MN statutes ... Subd. 6. Other motor vehicles. If the motor vehicle is any kind of motor vehicle other than those provided for in subdivisions 2 to 4, one plate must be displayed on the front and one on the rear of the vehicle. it doesn't specify front bumper as I've seen other states do. that location is kinda iffy, as it is a front facing surface of the vehicle, but it's halfway back, lol. If anything, I'm making it easier for a cop to read it, as it'll be at chest height rather than 3-4" off the gorund (it would be mounted low and to the side on the airdam) That and vehicles that could be registered as collector cars, but used as normal transportation does not have to run a front plate. this car being an 85 meets the 20 or 25 year date (I forget which it is) it takes to get collector plates (which you only need 1 of for the rear) Edited May 18, 2010 by D_Venable
dmyers151
You'll probably be alright with it there, if not just take the tickets with a smile, that's how I've been doing it for everything on my car. Like Scotty Dont said in a thread somewhere recently "it sucks to roll hard", haha.
D_Venable
so, went about 30 minutes out, and cleared 2 more O'reilly's (no one close has the gunmetal in stock, and the local distributor is out too) the guy I talked to said that O'reilly's might be switching paint companies (no more duplicolor) so I grabbed the 6 cans these 2 stores had did another coat, and then a dusting, I'll rol it out in the daylight tomorrow at check the evenness. http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5180425.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5180426.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5180427.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5180428.jpg Edited May 19, 2010 by D_Venable

D_Venable
How many cans have you used so far? How many coats? 2 coats + a dusting on everything except hood, airdam, and rear bumper, about 9-10 cans so far. That includes most of the engine bay as well, and one of the first cans was used on the mailbox too.
D_Venable
SO, got something in the mail today for the car, I'll save that for last, hehe rolled the car out, paint's not too bad (evenness, the spots you see are heavy spots, so it's just a difference in texture on the surface, should disappear once clear coated) so I laid down the pinstripe http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5200430.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5200431.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5200432.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5200433.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5200434.jpghttp://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5200435.jpg The fun thing I got in the mail... airhorns http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P5200429.jpg they are LOUD!!! said to be 130db at 110psi. it came with the valve show on the ground next to it, I pulled it off for testing only, threaded that hose on to fit my air nozzle
