My Dash Replacement and other progress ...

So, when I bought this car back in August it was is half decent running condition, but the interior was pretty much destroyed. Some previous owner tried to paint various parts of the interior tan. Through this forum, craigslist and eBay I've been tracking down new pieces ever since. I had to replace the head rests, door cards, center consel, radio surround and dash. Some of the parts I couldn't find, I repainted black with a vinyl fabric paint and created my own custom 2-tone maroon/black interior. I'm sure I'm not the first to do it, but, I think it looks pretty cool.

The last big thing to do was to swap the dash. That was yesterday's project.

what r u gonna do with that beige dash? because it would look cool in my green car

Well, just to be clear, it's not a tan dash ... it's a maroon dash painted tan. It looks much better in the pics than it does in real life. If you're interested and within driving distance, PM with an offer. Otherwise, I was going to put it back in my parts car.

Looks very good! Im glad you got it all worked out. Sorry the one in my parts car wasnt any good, but it looks like you've got it all handled now.

Thanks for trying to help BC. I wish your dash had in fact been maroon, I was really hoping to go OEM, but I'm happy with this for now. I might do the swap again if I ever find a sweet maroon dash, it wasn't that hard.

looks good, although I think I liked the tan dash better, but would have ditched the marroon. Of course, like you said, it looked better in the pics than in person.

The only "bad" thing I see is the back seats. Did you paint the top part of the maroon seats with the vinyl/fabric paint? That stuff works suprisingly well on the vinyl and fabric pieces of the car, but I've never had any luck getting it to stick to leather well. It will stick and look good until it gets sat in or used much, then it will crack and start trying to flake off.

Looks good tho I have major hate for the marroon interiors, but I think they look a lot better when they are broken up by some black.

Yeah, I kinda had to do something about the back seats. Painting them black on the top wouldn't have been my first choice, but the previous owner painted the top of them that tan color. You can actually see some careless over-spray on the drivers side back seat if you look carefully. I don't have any before pics of the rear seats, but it was pretty bad. I was just trying to work with what I had. I'll probably eventually track down new rear upper seats and install them.

I love that black on maroon. Looks rich. If it were me, I'd do the a-pillars in black too, along with the headliner. The black is like a hulahoop around the inside of red interior!

I second this. I think if you did everything above the dash in black it would look even better. As it sits now though, I think its 100x better than before.

I appreciate the input guys. Funny, I showed my friend who was over the other day the interior swap and the first thing he said is that I needed to get black pillars. Luckily, I think my parts car still has a set. I'll have to drive over to where it's stored and check it out.

EDIT: StarquestJoe sold me a set of new front leather seats too, but I'm waiting to put them in until the spring so they don't get all cold and hard.
