dsm9478
What should be the stock oil pressure reading with a mechanical gauge
speedyquest
You need to be more specific. First off the stock oil pressure unit isn't the most accurate of gauges. Secondly at what time are you refering to? When you first start up the car? When its at operating temp? At cruising speed? Allen
scott87star
The only oil pressure specification given in the FSM is hot idle, minimum 11 psi. The relief valve starts to open around 60-65 psi.
ucw458
Warmed up idle around 11-20 psi building up to around 80 PSI at 3000-3500 rpm. Cold engine will have higher pressure. It can be 100+psi when revving it cold. Edited April 24, 2014 by ucw458
dsm9478
Sorry guys it's at a cold start fresh motor rebuild and my factory gauge doesn't work even with a new sending unit sensor so I hooked up a mechanical gauge and it reads 30 psi cold haven't had a chance to warm it up because every time I fix the issue for example the first time I started it after rebuild day one it ran perfect drove it to the gas station to put some gas in and then drove it home and parked it started it day 2 and had a lower end noise so I pulled the motor and pulled the oil pan there was nothing unusual on the crank ended up finding a broken bolt for the balance shaft delete kit so I tore the timing cover off and replaced the balance shaft delete kit with another threw it all back in the car and ran fine again on the first start so I timedthe distributor and left it alone started it the second day had another knock so I shut it off immediately and hooked up a manual oil pressure gauge and it. Read 30 psi I just need to know if this is withing spec or not because I'm afraid the oil pump is bad and causing me all this mischief thanks guys I have the motor pulled again and I'm gonna diagnose the knocking noise today but would like to know If the oil pressure reading I got is within spec or not before I fix the issue and throw it back in the car thanks everyone
speedyquest
If you read the posts above you can see that 30 psi is not within spec. Good luck on getting it working correcyly. It can be frustrating being in that situation with a lot of work put into the car and having it not work correctly right away.

dsm9478
Think I found the problem the machine shop installed the oilers wrong and they were hitting the pistons even pulled all the main bearings and connection rod bearings off to be sure of no damage occurred thanks for the help everyone
