After having a close look at it, it appears I'm going to need to do some more modding to get it ready for install. Yup. I put my water temp sensor under the waterneck; plenty of material to drill and tap for it. I did have to remove some material from the AC bracket for clearence. The plate where the OEM TB used to be is great for vacuum nipples. I used the bigger nipple on the #4 runner for the brake booster. The SDS destructions said to not put the air temp sensor in the intake due to heat soak, so I put mine in the IC plumbing just before the TB. The adapter plate will work, but you have to be creative with the fuel pump blockoff plate as the intake will not fit over it; I used silicon and glued a gasket to the manifold. So, depending on where your budget is you can use that thing as-is with a few holes drilled and tapped for the stuff you need. I didn't like the way the adapter plate went on so I put a magna head on my car after 1 season (~2000 miles), and everything looked good when I took it apart. psu_Crash Posted August 6, 2010 Report Share Posted August 6, 2010 (edited) I say weld up the coolant passage and ditch the adapter plate. One less gasket to leak. The bung near where the T-stat used to be will work just fine for a coolant temp sensor. X2 on the #4 runner port being for the brake booster. Then like you already know drill and tap for some vac fittings. 1 larger one for the PCV then 2-4 smaller ports. Better to have too many than not enough. It's nice to have a couple be dedicated for things like MAP and FPR. Do you have gaskets for the magna since I see you have it apart? I was gonna make my own but if your willing to part with your set I'll gladly buy them off you. Also, you know any good welders? This pic will give you some idea. This intake came from one of the original GP's from Glen and looked like yours when I started. I tapped the fittings for vacuum lines on the underside of the plenum. I had to rotate the thermostat housing to point towards the front more, and welded on the OEM TBI throttle linkage bracket on to the side of the plenum. pure_insanity Posted February 1, 2014 Report Share Posted February 1, 2014 take a look in my sig and follow the link. ive got some pics of how i did things that may help. seems like some of those pics are yours even that i edited. i dont have a tig for aluminum but i do have a mig and would be glad to take care of whatever you need welded. ive done it a couple times so pretty familiar. i cant guarantee it to look perfect but i will guarantee it not to leak. I'd like to address some of your statements because from my experience, they are not accurate, or need reinforcing. 1. the A/C bracket won't need to be modified if you place the sensor in a different location. I had mine on the top or side for ease of access as well. 2. The plate on the back of the manifold sure is great for mounting vacuum nipples, BUT, it's not a very good source of vacuum. I got very different readings and a much better result from using a vacuum nipple right in the middle of the plenum, facing the engine. 3. Putting the Air temp sensor in the manifold is a BAD idea. I had major problems with sensor heat soak which prevented proper tuning, or having to run the engine at 1/4 throttle to cool off the sensor before making a pull, or doing logging. Put it in the pipe before the throttle body, and keep it away from direct heat like the radiator. (also if you have an MPI car, you know 1/4 throttle results in quite a bit of acceleration, so the method I described was pretty annoying if you wanted a pull from low RPM). 4. I guess if that water port in the back is a problem with the unmodified magna flange, then you'll need the spacer, but maybe you'll want to mod it so you don't need that? Edit: oh wow, so much typing for such an old thread! I won't delete my stuff now cause I feel it's relevant, but yeah. Gotta check the dates!
