tehzack
This is a necessary thing. Lets get this stickied. If you have a MAFT please post your settings, your setup, and how your car runs please! My car: 1987 conquest, 89 ecu, Delphi 650/950 injectors, walbro 255, 12a turdbo @ 16psi, 3" downpipe, hard pipes, dsm bov, 3" GM MAF mounted drawthrough style. My settings areAux: 0Base: 2Idle: 3Mid: 2WOT: E Weather around here is 94*F in the daytime with around 40% humidity. Elevation 850ft. My rig idles at 14.0-14.5, cruises out of boost at the same level and in boost runs 11.0-11.5 on my LC-1 Wideband. I tried the settings Aux: 0Base: 2Idle: 4Mid: 2WOT: F Car ran decent.. It idled at 10.8 (smoother idle than with my current settings, but too rich for my taste) and ran at 10.8 in boost. The reason I went to my current settings is the car hit a weird lean spot at part throttle at 2500rpm. It would go to like 16.5 on the wideband If you plan to run a 3" GM MAF you need one from the following vehicles:2003 BUICK CENTURY CUSTOM V6 3.1L 189cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = J2003 BUICK CENTURY dmyers151
While on the topic of the 3" GM MAF and MAFT setup, I'll post what I've learned during my time tuning and installing: - The 3" MAF requires a 3.25" coupler- When using the MAFT meant for the 1g DSM, with the stock harness/plug, cut the plug so that the red wires join together.- Mount the MAFT in an area that is as far away from heat as possible.- The WHITE and PURPLE wires from the MAFT are not needed in order to run our car.- Keep track of your "tunes" and results in a little log book or note pad, this makes it easy to back track when things get strange.- Keep a small philips head screwdriver in the car for removing the MAFT case cover.- Make sure your car is up to operating temps before tuning. BrazilBoy
Not sure if it is relevant, but wouldnt posting your altitude be helpful with posting your settings, since oxygen is thinner with elevation?I was about to say that too.. tehzack
I thought only the 88/89 cars had that? I'm preppin my rig to go run at zmax tonight. Cranked the boost up to 18. My 12a is hating life, but I wanted to see what I can do with it before I put my 16g on. My car hit 12.0 on the wideband at WOT at the top of 3rd so i'm gonna turn it a click richer. dstar88
heres my set up, mods, and what not: 88 conquest, Fuel injector clinic stock replacement injectors, bosch high flow fuel pump, trilogy turbos RRFPR @ ~40 psi., marnal head w ARP head studs, 274h cam, 1.6h roller rockers, BSEK, wiseco 8:1's .30 over, o-ringed block (copper o-ringing), stock bore crank, race prepped rods, ported exhaust mani., port match intake mani., ported 17c @ 13lbs. (cuz its taking a chet on me), 3" cat-back exhaust, maf-t set up as blow through (and soon to have an apexi safc neo thrown into the mix as well) w/ssqv bov recirculated. this is where the maf is located.http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu89/daniels_zx6/gmmafsetup.jpgi made a separate wiring harness to run the maf-t in the car and under the passenger seat.here are the settings:http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu89/daniels_zx6/2010-05-20104201.jpg http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu89/daniels_zx6/2010-05-20104049.jpg these setting most likely will only work with the maf and maf-t set up as blow through. So if you try these setting on a draw through set up, you may run the risk of running to lean. I ran these same settings with my old stock bottom end as well. the AFR when the car is warmed up has been:14 - 15 at iddle 13.5 - 16 cruising11's during boosting and hard acceleration. these numbers where ruffly the same with both my old set up listed in my sig.( stock cam, 1.6 rockers, stock block bla bla bla) And with my all my new mods listed above. there wasnt a huge change in AFR's at all. ill edit some more when i get the chance. tehzack
Update on my rig. Swapped my setup up somewhat substantially. Now running ebay big 16g @20psi with blowthru maf placed where the bov would normally be on the ovcp. I also ported and polished my throttlebody while I had it off, which made a HUGE difference in my spool up time. I was running my delphi 650/950 setup at my previous settings but it would creep towards 12.0 on the wideband and would hit what felt like a fuel cut at anything over 15psi. I tried tinkering with the base setting to make the whole curve richer, but nothing I did would keep it at acceptable afr's in 3rd and 4th gear. So I swapped in two stock secondary injectors (950/950) and started my tune from scratch. My current settings are: Base: 4Idle: DMid: CWOT: A That gives me an idle of around 14, cruise of 13.4-13.8 and boost of 11-11.4 Car is now pulling nice and clean at 20psi. Its like this thing brushes its teeth with abuse. Edited July 16, 2010 by tehzack

StarquestRescue
This is what one off my friends had his set to. 17c 3" exhaust, and everything *DM sells. The car ran a couple of 13.5's and routinely knocked off high 13 teens. The hoosier dr's helped with the 60's. http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff45/StarquestRescue/Data%20logs/DSC01875-1.jpg Edited July 16, 2010 by StarquestRescue

AlexNYC
I finally purchased and installed the right Maft translator for my 86.My setting so far are identical to CyberQuest.(thank you for your help when PM) Wiring for 86 from Codyboy. Maft Trans /// 1g masblack___ to ___blackgreen___ to ___greenpink___ to ____redgrey___ to ____white white and purple no wiringBrown wire to green/black to stock OVC sensor I try different wiring set up like an 87 and up. But there was a slag when I would step on the gas at first. This set up seems to holding good. On the rich side right now but will be adjusting a little at a time. Much better improvement, you could just hear it how it idles. ( I do have a problem sometimes. but this was even before. will post later or pm for help. everything running smooth, then all the sudden the pressure drops down to like -12. but runs good. except when that happens there's a slag on the turbo. I turn off the car, start it again and its fine, until next time) Stock/3" exhaust all the way back/bov/ Edited August 29, 2010 by AlexNYC

Caliber308
Here's my way to do it. Install a Wideband O-2 Gauge. Then follow the instruction manual for the MAF-Translator settings at Idle,Midrange and Wide Open Throttle. This is the best way to set it up. No one can tell you with any degree of accuracy that their settings will be the same as yours.Just read the last two pages, "one members setting it this, another members setting is that". If you want to set it up properly, follow the instructions in the MAF-Translator Manual and use a Wideband Gauge along with "their AFR sheet" for your AFR readings. A lot use this combination: Idle: 14.0 AFRMidrange:14.7 AFRWide Open Throttle: 11.0 AFR You can't get those AFR readings with a Narrowband. Here's a good example that "One setting does not fit all": At Idle, I run 12.5 AFR.Why? When others run their cars at 14.0 AFR.It is simple. I run a Roller Cam and the car won't idle properly at 14.0 AFR, So I have to richen it up a bit to have a smooth Idle. Another example is Stock Injectors vs. Aftermarket ones: "Larger Primary and Smaller Secondary on the Aftermarket ones" That will also change the MAF-T Settings. Dodge2004srt4
Is there a specific model Maft you have to get? There is a Maf translator for sale locally for a 1st gen Eclipse and Im not sure if it will work. I saw on their site they have vehicle specific ones and general use ones. BTW, Ive seen them for sale but never stated which one you had to order. Searching has gotten me no where so far. Thanks,Chris. Earl
The translator for the 1g is the one that plugs up to our harness with minor modification to the plug. The 2g can work but you need to swap pigtails and/or splice wires. make sure it is a version 2.01 or greater=)
