TopDawg_43
So, I started my current job back in Nov. After a few months, I was talking to a guy about buying his old lap-top. I told him I needed it to tune my car. I went on to explain that I had a SQ with a stand-alone. He said one of our welders had a SQ, that didn't run. Saying he had never seen the car. He points out the guy to me, I talk to him. He tells me, his car broke down 7 years ago and he didn't know what was wrong. It's an 86 Dodge ConQuest, he's the original owner. I've never messed with a 86 before, but how hard could it be? The car is about an hour an a half from my house, so I knew I had to make great strides with each trip. I'm talking to the guy on the way out there. And he has no clue, nothing, no idea. All he knows it won't run, and until now, he didn't know anybody that knew about SQ. Doing some basic checks and I quickly figure out the fuel pump is bad. So of course I drop the tank. I made a list of parts he needed to get, including some other stuff that was bad, or didn't look right. I had him order some f-links from DAD. On the next trip, I install the pump, and go to fire the car up, and NOTHING, just turns over. I mess with the time and get it to catch, kinda. All sorts of bugs and lizards fell out the car. Even thought it was sitting on a concrete pad the whole time. The car was running real rough and even back-firing. After some thinking, I realize the wires are crossed . I correct the wires, and NOTHING . The engine would do nothing but turn over. On a whim and a guess, I rotate the dist 180 degrees, and she fired right up and idled smoothly , and revved properly. That the owner remembered that he took the car to a dealer when it went down, and he didn't know what they did. All he knew was they said they could not find the problem. That made me wonder what kind of people the had working at a dealership , that could not figure out an engine was not getting fuel . It kinda amazed me that I had it running with the dist off, and the wires crossed. And I kept it running until it heated up. Either way, another SQ lives again
