windshield installation-- need weatherstrip??

I am scheduled to have a new windshield installed on my 87 tsi tomorrow, and the installer says he doesn't need to put in a weatherstrip/adhesive dam or use spacers. Has anybody had experience with leaving these parts out? Is it OK?

Strange smoke under hood

So my car's tucked away for the winter.... and I've been starting it up and letting it run every so often. I let it run for a while the other day, and after it warmed up, I noticed some smoke in the engine compartment.
I did my absolute best to determine where it's coming from, and it would appear to be from the bolt circled in this pic:

Is it even possible for smoke to be coming out from that bolt? I'm 99% sure it's not dripping down and just

i am contacting several manfucaturers to develope gas shocks/struts as i hear companies are discontinuing applications for our starquests.
these will be same size as the stock ones and replacing worn out blown stock ones.
i have a few choices and would like to discuss with members to decide which styles to develope.
1. reg. non-ajustable gas filled --- llike tokico HP series
2. gas filled with damping force adjustable --- like tokico illumina series
