updates?

Status is on hold. Basically just been ordering more parts. This Fall I got Technology's old Treadstone manifold with Tial external wastegate, Jolyrgr's 3" SS exhaust and MagnaFlow's 14828 race series SS muffler. Also found a new mechanic for the engine rebuild and future paint job. One problem, he's 5 hrs away! The shop I was using is just ridiculous $$$. Still have to get a Fidenza fly wheel, 20 G turbo and will have to upgrade my brand new Turbo XS boost controller for an HKS electronic boost controller now that I will be using an external wastegate. Hopefully Santa will bring me a couple things on my wish list and it'll be down to VA sometime next month.

The time has come. The car is down in VA and the project is moving on: pulling engine and lots of extras..., also going to try a whole new MPI/OVC prototype. Pictures to follow. Edited by pc85

Thanks man. Its been a 25 year project, finally I'm at a place where I can have everything done right instead of piece mealing on a budget. Can't wait to have it all finished.

I LOVE your flatty. SO MUCH. I love the color, I really love the wheels, I love it. good job ;)

Wow that's quite the compliment. Thanks man. Its my life long project and finally coming to completion. BTW, I'm actually thinking of getting it painted a darker blue? and want to change the rims. I want to get custom 17 x 8 F, 17 x 9.5 R rims. Saw your posts on calculating offset in "Custom Rims" thread. Do you know if I could squeeze 255 40 17 tires on 9.5 wide rims on the rear of a Flatty? PM me about what you think.

Thanks

The stance of your flatty is the best one I'v seen. Love it. Makes me miss my 87 flatty. I'm getting the itch again to buy another one. Its been about a year since I'v driven a Conquest. Then agin if I would just finish my green car I wouldnt have to keep buying a new starquest every couple years to feed my fix lol

Lancaster huh? I'd like to see this "in person" someday. I'm only about 1.5 hrs away. http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

Good work Dude, lookin' sweet.

Thanks man, we'll definetly hook up when I get it back. maxboost87 is doing the engine for me in VA. Love your blue, can't wait to see the finished product.

Eibach lowering springs, KYB struts, European ground effects (give it a unique/slight widebody look) and 16 x 8 Rikens all around; don't have a clue on the offset but its all going to change when I move up to 17"s. Thanks for the feedback. If it wasn't for the + comments on this site, I would have driven the beast over a cliff a long time ago. LOL.

Finish your car.

Update: Tank is dropped, getting ready to install SS -6 fuel line from pump to engine bay as soon as it comes in the mail. Intake flange is being cut, and waiting on materials for the runners. Pics will come with the install of fuel system within a few days. I will keep you posted on here. Also need to troubleshoot the sending unit, to figure the deal with that while the tank is down.

Before you start with the fabrication of the MPI/runners, do you have an idea of the volume capacity? From the MPI thread, we need more than just two cylinders of volume at least 4 to be close to the traditional tube set ups; Magna, ECI.

DzNutz had a great idea with the Inventor program for testing flow, the more we know before the fabrication the better.

Get'r done.

What i meant was 2 "sets" of cylinders "8"...i didn't catch that. 2 cylinders of volume is about the size of 1-1/2 cans of soda, close to the size of the magna plenum..not much. I want to get as close to twice the engine displacement without running into space constraints or looking goofy. If you think about it that takes alot of space, imagine 2-1/2 two liter bottles all put together. We need to decide which cam we are going to use. I am afraid you won't be happy with that 292. it is going to be a slug up till -4500+rpm. Turbo engines like smaller cams unless it is a drag car never dropping below a given rpm. To do it right i need to know the cam before i can work on a true runner design that will compliment the engine. (Its possible to add up to 10psi of boost pressure to an opening intake valve from the closing of another, at the rpm sweet spot, this is known as 110% volumetric efficiency) Not saying we are going to achieve that much VE but that is a good goal to work towards.

Glad the volume issue is clear. Yeah we don't want two, 2 L bottles on top of the VC. Check out the cam I have on my valve train now, see if that one would work better and remember we want to use the hydrualic lifters from my old cam as well.

What's that glob on the oil pickup screen?

According to maxboost87, a few pieces of "rtv" that got sucked in the oil screen. Not exactly sure what that is.

Sorry its been so long, the project is not dead albeit the progress is very slow. Finally got the engine bay painted:

New paint color is Ford Kona blue. When the engine is done I plan on having the body repainted.
