that would be great.ive eliminated most of the wires that i didnt need but didnt document anything.make sure you keep the vss sensor that goes to the trans.it helps quits a bit with the idle.most people dont use it but its very helpful with the t-5. Edited by tim si

I plan on using the stock Mustang speedo and a modified version of the cluster, so I'll definitely be keeping the VSS. I'll keep everyone updated.

How's your stuff coming along Tim? Car still running smoothly?

Hey Tim, what did you end up doing for a driveshaft? Did you have a new unit built or did a driveline shop make one out of a Mustang and stock SQ piece? I'm trying to get an idea of what I'll need to do for my swap. I had considered having an adapter flange built to mate the Mustang's diff pattern to the SQ's torque-tube pattern, then having the stock Mustang driveshaft shortened to fit. I'm just torn between cost-effectiveness and simplicity, as well as not having to sacrifice an SQ driveshaft unless absolutely necessary.

when we built the first one,we took the end of the ford driveshaft out of the tube and turned it down to fit the conquest tube and welded it in.that left me with a small u-joint in the rear. that held fine til i put slicks on.the second one built was a mustang shaft shortened.we took the flange off the torque tube and found a front yoke that goes in the ford tail shaft, cut the end of the yoke off and welded it to the flange.the small piece of yoke that was left was turned down a little to fit in the flange before welding up.its kinda hard to explain but thats how we did it.it was done at a machine shop and everything lined up perfect.i have no vibrations.the second shaft cost about 150 bucks but that for having a driveshaft shop shorten the driveshaft and having the machine shop do the work to the flange.im sure the trans or rear end will break before the driveshaft does.i can prob get some pics when i get my car back from the body shop.

Hey Tim, sorry to keep bothering you about this swap, but I had another question for ya.

You're still running stock steering, right? Did the oil pan clear or did you have to modify some things? I can't quite tell from your pictures. Good to know I can easily bolt it in on the stock mount pads.

-edit-

Guess I should pay attention, haha.

Hopefully this will clear with an S13 240sx steering rack and crossmember.

Hey V8 swappers

Do any of you folks that have replaced the stock StarQuest turbo engine with a V8 have the stock downpipe laying around, gathering dust, that you'd like to part with? I'm assembling StarQuest turbo parts to install on my '89 carbed Montero, and I need one of those downpipes that bolts on the back of the turbo, at the three-bolt flange. I need the whole EFI side as well, but I might have a local source for that up in Richmond.

Anyway, if someone has a downpipe they're willing to let go for cheap, let me know!

Mine was cracked and falling apart in about 9 places, wouldn't be salvageable either, since I just cut the cat out to sell it.

Just take some quick measurements and have a 3-bolt flange cut for you. Might be cheaper, too.

it takes alot of work but its worth it.theres nothing wrong with the 2.6 but i really love my 5.0 ill either be selling my silver 86 or trading it in on a truck next spring though.it just takes too much time keeping up two of them.

I dont really remember where the stock holes were.I only cut the ''L''shape because it was easier to install with the mounts on and i could slide the engine back as far as possible. With my first swap,i just drilled holes where i wanted the engine to sit.

Maybe I am over analyzing the whole thing, I'll probably have a much better idea once I get the old motor out and mock up the one.

Thanks for the response man
