quest88_TSI
Hello Fellow questers, Who makes a good replacement leather shifter boot? Can you give me a good link or number to a place that sells them?
khanquest
Got mine long ago from JCWhitney. Came with a steel mounting plate I didn't use, but it fit the stock mounting really well, looks great, and is a lot more durable! Don't know if they still sell it, but they only had one or two genuine leather at the time.
kev
http://www.jcwhitney.com/product.jhtml?CAT...341&BQ=jcw2 I just ordered a burg. one for my white car. They charge $10 to ship the stupid thing though! kev
Coz
No offense... but holy crap is that thing ever ugly! My shifter boot is torn to shreds as well, but I don't think I will pay $30 for that thing. There has got to be something else out there that is a little more asthetically pleasing. kev
It looks identical to the stock one when on the car. It doesn't stay in that cone shape. kev

kev
Oh. Dont I feel like the complete moron now? Â : I wouldn't feel that way, it was a good question. I saw a pic of someones car with one of these on it sometime in the past. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't have bought one. kev
Technology
i bought my car with a leather one on it forma previous owner, i also think the whole interior is a custom job, but anyway, it was chincy thin stuff and the top layer has seperated from the bottom layer almost all over it, plus it is WAY too big it's like it was a fat shifter that got liposuctioned and never got the tuck and fold! maybe i should get one
bzurc
I just took my old one into a local pro-trim and had them make a new one.
Coz
Is JCWhitney that slow? I placed the order on the 15th of October, I still have yet to recieve the "your product has shipped" Email confirmation. Odd.
kev
I just got a confirmation that mine was shipped and I ordered mine 1 day before yours. However it is coming parcel post, thus it takes up to 10 days to show up at my door kev
Coz
Still no shifter boot and today is the 22nd. The stupid USPS tracking page says the same thing over and over, it never gets updated. "Status is updated every evening, please check back." Lies. All lies!!! >
kev
It is the same with me Coz. Mine isn't here either. I hate USPS. I just had an intake manifold shipped up from Texas. USPS lost the package and when it did show up it was damaged. kev
Quest4Power
wow, USPS got me too. they lost my T04E in the process of shipping it. they seem to be good at that lately.
kev
I got mine yesterday. The mailman shoved it in my mailbox though. Not that it hurt anything, but it was a PIA to get out. Oh don't even get me started about USPS. kev
Coz
Well I finally got mine last friday or something. In between kicking myself in the teeth w/ my stupid pop up headlight problem, I put on the shifter boot. The thing barely covers the insulation on the bottom/top (depending on how you are looking at it) of the tranny. When I go through the gears, I can see the insulation peeking out of the top left corner of the shifter boot. Tight fit. But at least I dont have tears in it. kev
Yes I installed mine as well. I removed the console out of the car and removed the black trim ring around the shifter boot. It took a bit of stretching but I was able to stretch out the boot and fasten it between the console and black trim piece by putting the screws that hold the trim piece through the leather. It holds it real nice and tight. My only problem is that the boot is kinda short. It would look 100% with the original shift knob but I use a B&M T-bar handle. So about 1-2" of the shift bar shows, but it still looks pretty damn good. Also the burg. boot at JC Whitney matches the burg. leather interior perfectly!! kev
88BlueTSiquest
My shifter boot cost a bit more, but I'm happy with the results. http://www.bluegtzhome.com/starquest/interior.html It's the custom made carbon fiber looking shift boot from www.kreativeboots.com Few more pics here : http://www.bluegtzhome.com/pics/starquest/shiftboot1.jpg http://www.bluegtzhome.com/pics/starquest/shiftboot2.jpg http://www.bluegtzhome.com/pics/starquest/shiftboot3.jpg http://www.bluegtzhome.com/pics/starquest/shiftboot4.jpg If interested in these, contact the email addy at the kreativeboots.com site. kev
USPS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't even bother getting on the phone to find out where it is because they haven't a clue. The only thing you can do is sit back and wait. > kev
Coz
Yup, dont even bother clicking on the USPS tracking website. Mine said it was in the same "HUB" every damn night. Until it arrived at my door. And then it still said it was in Jersey. lol
