I will win your $, then your flatty, then your leg. :P

J/K Been awhile since I went to regular poker games. It was dealers choice for a long time. Then they went to hold em only. Got boring so I stopped going.

A couple games I used to call were,

5 card draw, everyone gets 4 cards then one more card is placed face up in the middle of the table. That's everyone's 5th card and it's wild. So if a 10 pops up then all 10s are wild. That game usually ends up with someone having 4 of a kind. That's also the only game I ever got a royal flush. It was a natural too. 10 of diamonds was in the middle and I had the jack, queen, king and ace of diamonds. I also ended up going all in when I had 4 kings just to be beat by 4 aces. Man that sucked.

5 card draw, odd hearts are wild. 3,5,7 and 9 of hearts were wild. That one was fun because people got confused and threw their wild cards away. Funny to see people's expressions when they did that.

one dollar annie. roll your own, low card in the hole wild. 7 cards total, first 3 dealt down. YOUR low card in the hole is wild, like down the river, two cards down roll one over then place your bets. dealer gives out another card, roll one out, then bet, etc.

with two down, and four up your last card dealt to you is an option of paying five bucks to have it up, or free if you want it down. so say you have a pair of 8's in your hole you wouldn't want to take the chance of getting a lower card making your two 8's no longer wild, see ? so you pay five bucks to take it up. final bets then harry takes all the money

there's more...

"You know what always cheers me up? Rolled up aces over kings. Check-raising stupid tourists and taking huge pots off of them. Stacks and towers of checks I can't even see over. Playing all-night, high-limit hold'em at the Taj, where the sand turns to gold." - Worm from the movie "Rounders"

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been an avid poker player since grad school. Mostly NLHE, but enjoy 5 or 7 stud and Omaha H/L too.

Payed for quite a few Starion parts off the 1/2 NL games. Don't do tourneys much anymore...too much time and people usually split the pot at final table anyway or gang up on the one who protests. Tourneys turn into craps when blinds are too high & fast too, so it is more luck than skill. There's a home game that does 2 $20 rebuy tourneys, but blinds fly so quick and chip stacks are low to start with it's more for fun than actual skill.

I played a few weeks ago at Immokalee casino after a free show by Trapt. Ended up playing next to their lead guitarist for a while. Hilarious table that was. I used to be on a web forum for poker, not sure if it's still around. They had members only tourneys online when that was legal. Played on house money and even with a few pros, who were cool like most others. Not playing much now as car and business take priority for my time and $$. Nothing like throwing down some food and beers while playing. ~ Cheers

imo, matters not how skillful you are, you don't win without luck ;)

In the short term, YES! Absolutely. That's why I can't afford the ups/downs of tournaments and never play with more than can be an acceptable loss. In the long run, winning at a greater rate when cards are good minus losing as little as possible when you're dealt crap and sucked out on should = overall winnings, and at a rate per hour that makes it worth it. Unless going pro or as side income, it's supposed to just be affordable fun IMO. Wish me luck on the $20 turbo home tourney tonight! haa
