I need to see where the wire ground bolts to the rear of the transmission. Does it bolt under the rear mounts under the metal strap? Anyone have a picture? Edited by tsi_tom

On my 89 auto it was mounted to the transmission stud on top of the mount. In the last pic that would be under the nut just below speedo cable as pictured.

The transmission is a 5 speed. I wonder if that makes a difference. What is strange is that I never loosened that nut. Also I don't think the wire would reach. The memory shape in the wire indicates it should go to the mounting bolt. I just found my electrical manual. I will search it for the ground location.

Thank you guys. I tried to rationalize why I didn't remember taking that wire off the left transmission mount stud under the speedometer cable. The reason is I didn't take it off from there. I took it off the bolt from the cross member mount.

What has happened is that the previous owner changed the clutch to a high performance Daiken clutch and put the wire in the wrong spot. This is why I didn't remember where it should go because it didn't seem right to put it back there. Looking at the 1988 electrical manual on page 8-252 Noise Suppression clearly shows the cable being connected to the transmission stud under the speedometer.

Thanks for all your help.
