GeeDee
Hello to one and all from the UK!I've recently been given an '87 Starion EX 2000 'Flatty'. The 'catch' is that it's in pretty rough condition and the engine is in bits Here's a picture of the old girl - http://home.btconnect.com/cdrestoration/images2/Photo0022.jpg As you guys know by the model it's has the 8v SOHC 4 pot (4G63) with the MHI TC06-11A turbo. Here's what it looks like at the moment - http://home.btconnect.com/cdrestoration/images2/Photo0021.jpg http://home.btconnect.com/cdrestoration/images2/Photo0026.jpg http://home.btconnect.com/cdrestoration/images2/Photo0027.jpg These cars are very rare in the UK as they never sold in big numbers back in the 80's and I can't even remember the last time I saw one on a british road As you can imagine parts are very hard to come by so this could be a tough project. Anyway, I hope you like it and I hope you don't mind me asking a million questions about it, as this is all new to me.CheersGreg
Komeuppance
Welcome to the site!! Looks like you have a great project to start with. Do you know of other owners in the UK?? If not I can get you some contact info from a few I know of, spread out on various forums haha. We in the US never had the g63b Turbo engine, only N/A. However, almost everything is mechanically similar so questions are most welcome. You may also want to check out austarion.com, an Aussie site, upside down, but they have a lot of technical information on the g63b Turbo. -Robert

ZacMan
G'day from the colonies . Ive got a european import 86 starion here in NZ. Swing me a PM if you need any wiring info, I've recently aquired the full 1986 Mitsubishi workshop manuals for European, Australian and General Export models, makes for some interesting reading. The wiring info is exceptionally helpful. There are some differences between 86 and 87, but nothing majour, so most stuff should match up. I do love the flat-siders . Technology
I think you should put the dohc head on it. It should bolt on, I think.
GeeDee
G'day ZacMan, I'll be in touch. I think you're right Technology...finding one will be a problem for me though.
ZacMan
The naturally aspirated twin cam heads are the same, bar the cams. Its the lack of manifolds to put the turbo and throttlebody in the right place for a longitudinally mounted motor that causes the main headaches, plus the lack of clearance to the firewall for the cam-angle sensor and water piping. You'd need to change to 16v pistons aswell to get the clearance and compression ratio right. The head does indeed bolt on, but it's all the fab sork and wiring required to get it actually up and running that takes all the time. Technology
Import a 4g63 from the US and swap all necessary parts. there are plenty of places around the US that make RWD manifolds for the dohc 4g63.
