tsi_tom
I don't know when I did this but sometime when I was cleaning my pistons I nicked one of the rods. Take a look: http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/Connecting%20Rod/rodnick1.jpg http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u467/tsi_tom/Connecting%20Rod/rodnick2.jpg Will this nick come in contact with the crank? Do I need a new rod? Thanks for the help, Tom

The Rabbit1
lol, file and might need to sand, the bearing sits on top of it so it will be fine. just make it flat. Raised metal is a no-no
tsi_tom
file it smooth , will be fine So this nick will not come in contact with the side of the crank at all? It is really not sharp. It is almost like a ding. What scared me is that it is slightly on the machined bevel. Thanks for your input guys. My block and crank will be back next week from the machine shop.
techboy
Yeah, you should be fine. You have to set a bearing there yet, that's where the real contact takes place. If you look at your crank when you get it back you'll notice there's a small bevel where the crank transitions from the sidewall to bearing surface. So, it's not like the side of the crank and side of the rod have "0" tolerance between them, there's a fraction of space in there. File it flat like the others said and you're all good. Did you end up using Greg at Automotive and Industrial for the crank and block work? I'd be curious to know what he charged you vs. me.
