Alternator alternatives?

Anyone know of a good deal for a stock replacement/ With little or no add-ons (all-stock). Mine just went out and left me sit about 5 miles from my house.

Should I have it rebuilt or buy new?

Advice is always welcomed!

Search for a 1990 Hyundai Sonata, 2.4L. Right alternator, wrong pulley (serpentine belt style instead of V-belt like the 'quest). Anybody with an impact wrench can swap the pulley--I brought in my old alternator and the guys at the yard did it for free. I was back in business the same day.

Good luck!

You could go to the scrap yard and look for this:

"The Hyundai Elantra 100 amp alt is a plug and play... even uses the same plug. The only thing you need to do is drill the lower mounting bolt hole one step larger."

If you don't need more amps, you should take yours to your local rebuilder. If yours is the OEM alternator, then the parts in it are better than any aftermarket store bought one, and can be rebuilt for higher quality.

Get this: http://www.autozone...._/N-jmnnuZ9ci9i

150 amp, lifetime warranty..

I'm sure yours is doing fine, but if the battery ever goes dead, and that alternator is in there, it will blow the charge wire fuse link unless it is upgraded too. Then you still have a 150 Amp unit that won't stay cool if running over 90 or so. It will burn up. Plus, you still need to swap your pulley on it, and be sure to save the other one for when you need to return that one after it goes out. Lifetime warranties are almost always junk that needs replaced more often than one built by a reputable shop. Didn'tlast is what you get instead.

If you don't need the extra amps, don't upgrade higher like that unless you upgrade the charge wire fuse link, and also pick a case style that will dissapate the heat well enough to not burn up if the demand means actually using the higher amps.

X2 , have nothing but good things to report about this Ebay unit ^ AND the price has dropped since i bought my last one. :)

Agreed. I have had one of their Alternators installed since April 2010. Works great, and installation was a piece of cake ;)
