I had always loved those Merkurs, along w/ the capris. When I really took notice of those I was driving a custom 1978' Datsun 280Z. Probably one of my favorite luxury sports/economy cars of all. Not as intricate as our StarQuests, but nice sports cars lines, & great possibilities modd'n. I would have to say until that part I was mostly an American muscle car guy, aside from a 69' XKE, 67' Healy 3000, & a couple others. Nonetheless, I felt those Merkurs belonged in that category of rariety. Almost bought one a few years backs. Thanks for the pic, way kool!

I do not have the knob but i do have a question for you . did you take the leather off the seats to bring them back to life. I have been working on mine. i have been soaking theme in Neets Foot Oil. They use this for saddles.

I like seeing article like this. It makes me want to keep my 89 now. I have had mine for sale for a while. I am looking for a Beetle trade. I am a big car enthusiast too. i like a lot of rare cars as well. I first saw a Conquest in high school too, back in 96. At first when i saw it i thought it was a Supra but i new it was something else because of how much cooler it was. since then i wanted one butt never saw one again until 4 years ago. At my work "A Dive Bar" an 89 was abandoned to die in the Hot Sun, in the parking lot. It sat for a year until i got the word out that i was going to steel it before it withered away in the sun. A gentle Man came up to me which ended out being a regular costumer of mine and asked how much i would give him. I said $900. He said Ok. He drove the car as far as he could get and it was the bar. I would drive no farther. The Trans! The injectors! The Fuel system! Only 90K on the all original car. I sent it to the shop and two years later After now bad Blood with my ex friends the transmission GUYS. More than one shop!!!! i have been driving for about 5 months now. Not a perfect car but VERY NICE. I am working on making it perfect. The only reason i am wanting to sell this car is because my BUTT is just to damn big to fit in these seats comfortable.

LOVE your car though. i hope mine looks that good one day too!

I never took the leather off the seats...I just dyed the leather right on the spot, but I did take all the seats off the car. Your idea seems to be a good one. I bet they will feel nice and soft....just like new leather.

I have felt the same way at times. There have been times when I have thought about the possibility of selling my Starquest and also my daily driver and just get a VERY NICE NEW car; but everytime I see my Quest in the garage, just seating there like a queen; I tell myself...NO WAY!! that's staying right where it is (that is unless I get offered 10K for it just as what happened to another member here)......There are just beautiful machines.

Wow, this car is crazy clean!

Thanks! I really try to keep it in as great a shape as I possibly can.........I think it just needs an 83 hood!

By the way guys.....I have been struggling to find the passenger's seat bolster knob screw round plastic cover that I am still missing. You can notice on picture 11 what I am talking about. A fellow member was nice enough a couple of months ago to give me the driver's side one, which I was very grateful; but every time I open the passenger's door the bear screw is the first thing I see and just drives me crazy.....if you have one laying around, please let me know your price and I will buy it!

Don't know if you ever found the cover to the seat bolster screw but there's a whole bolster for sale on ebay

$9.34
