If you have the pump and the valve, spring, and vanes are still in good condition you could do a rebuild on the pump. It's a LOT cheaper!...only about $20. ;) All you have to do is undo a total of seven bolts (Four on back, the top outflow bolt that contains the valve and spring, and two that hold on the small inlet pipe). The hardest thing is getting one small clip off that hold the pulley shaft in the pump. The whole kit is simply seals. The first URL is a detailed service manual breaking down the pump along with assembling the pump (go to Steering-Power on pg30) and the second URL is one of a few places where you can get the seals:

Hope this helps! :)

Yeah the ineresting thing about the 84 Colt/ Mirage is it uses a rack & pinion not a gear box.

There are probably more out there but for a direct fit with plumbing lines, pulley size, and drive belt alignment, those are the only choices.

I looks as if they are manufactured by KYB.

Yeah, what I would do is go to a local u-pull-it type salvage yard and look through the Mitsubishi cars. I could swear the pump on my '96 Mirage is the same as the StarQuests except the pulley. Thus why it doesn't call out on parts interchange references.

We had one of those funky little half SUV, Half Mini-Vans in my friend's shop once. It had the same pump with a multi-groove pulley too. I think it was a Mazda MPV. For $10 you can get one and see if the pulleys swap, etc... Or even bring your pump to the yard and compare until you find the same one. I'm in yards quite a lot all over the US, and you would be surprised how many other cars have the same parts as ours, or ones that interchange and are better, etc... Most parts of of other cars are in better shape than ours too, like fuse link boxes on Mighty Max's, and just about any electrical connector that is the same as ours will be better especially if the car is newer.

For a $1-3 entry fee into a Pick-N-Pull, etc..., you can find some serious cheap parts in great condition.

The only thing with the pulleys is that the shaft is connected to it. It's very hard to get the pulley off if you even can. I've never tried but it looks to be pretty impossible without damaging the pulley you're switching off. More or less you have to check to see if your shaft will work with the pump you get that has the multi-groove pulley.

Also! NOTE! When you rebuild the pump...make note that when you place the vane rotor in that you have the grove that's carved in the center is facing up. There will be a small groove on one side of the rotor where the shaft goes through...it MUST be on the top so the retaining ring will fit inside of it or you won't be able to get the cover on nice and snug. Also make sure that the valve isn't worn too terribly much on the side. Don't want that fluid to be passing by and messing up your pressure ;)
